LOL…got a kick out of this thread. I’m nowhere near the size of the original poster, but I get this all the time. HOWEVER, I used to be, like, 20 pounds bigger than him, but more ripped (I kid, I kid).
Its very simple, I think. By walking around with visible muscles and a reasonable bodyfat level, you are inadvertently sending off wave upon wave of “ego-bruising” signals to the weaker-minded of the male gender…signals that say “you are inferior”. That’s all it boils down to. Obviously they can’t compete with you physically, so they try to knock you down a peg by making up some ridiculous anecdote about a mythical 14 year old cousin who deadlifts bear carcasses. Or, its some story about a 140 pound “friend” of theirs who routinely kicks the shit out of big muscleheads. ANY bullshit to build up their weak psyches.
I usually handle it by being very nonchalant. They’re looking for a reaction so don’t give them one. “Neat” always works well.
Or, if you really wanna be a dick, if you’re dealing with one of those “used to be” guys, side-track their bullshit story with one of your own…
“I remember it like it was yesterday. The All-Valley Under 18 Karate Championships. Under the tutelage of my psychopathic, shell-shocked ex-marine ‘Sensei’ I was ready to take home yet another obnoxiously huge trophy. In fact, I was so confident that I spent most of that morning fluffing and meticulously combing my blond mop hairstyle instead of practicing. What a grievous error that was.” and then look wistfully at some fixed point in the distance.
