Hushmail Not So Hushed Anymore

This is a week old or a bit longer, but I thought I’d post it in case some people here were unaware. Hushmail has been successfully subpoena-ed by the gov’t into giving prosecutors IP and message info on people thought to be trafficking AAS.

If you don’t use Hushmail’s more secure option (that requires use of a Java applet on BOTH sides of the email travel), you can get busted by the feds, b/c the company has your encryption info and may give it over to the g-men.

If your source doesn’t use the more secure version, then you can get busted as well. Both ends have to use it.

EDIT: Encrypted E-Mail Company Hushmail Spills to Feds | WIRED

Just read that article. Look at this moronic comment someone posted about it:

“GOOD! I’m glad that the Feds were able to get their hands on those emails! I hope it helps them catch the people creating those drugs that kill millions each year. If you have nothing to hide, then you have no reason to want to hide it. I’m glad to see that law enforcement agencies can still uphold and protect the laws created in this country to protect those that are innocent from those that are criminals. Crime doesn’t pay.”

Oh man. I just want to punch those types of people in the head!
How many ‘million’ people have steroids killed? How many at all?

Actually, there is no secure method of using Hushmail. Encryptions and Java applets included, there is none. Zip, zero, nada, no method of making Hushmail G-man proof.

Want to keep things secret? Use a heavily encrypted server somewhere overseas in a counry that doesn’t bend over and assume the position everytime our government throws a fit.

Obviously, the only fool-proof method is to avoid sending sensitive information over any electronic source.

well, Contrl, you’re right. There is the possibility that Hushmail could slip a modified version of the Java applet to the computer to leach info, but they have the code of their applet open to public review. Also, I suppose you could encrypt your info locally, then send the encrypted info out via AIM or other method, and then give the client the key. But I just figured I’d let others know. I know a number of sources use hushmail/similar accounts in order hide and I figured people might want to know that it’s now on the g-men’s radar screen.
