Is anyone getting ready for the upcoming hunting season? I’m in PA and we have an early archery antlerless season coming up in two weeks. How’s it looking for you this year?
Got two nice ones on game camera’s this year. They made Archery season include crossbows this year so I am kind of wondering how that’s going to effect my early season public land honey holes. Our archery season opens Oct 1. Going to try to take out some doves tomorrow.
Upcoming? it’s been hunting season for awhile! Get sum! No luck with the bears yet, for bait anyway.
Ha there is always a hunting season of some type going. And when there isn’t, coyote and hog are year round. Not to mention, you got to have time to fish. Plus I am betting Maine doesn’t have big game seasons go all the way till Jan 31?
Every time I see the thread title, I read it as Haunting Season and get excited.

In PA they started the Xbow about 10 years ago. It’s settled down some and the technology has caught up but your in for a treat. Guys out there thinking they can now shoot at 60 yds. and deer running around with arrows in their ass. I have a Xbow and harvested with it, not very thrilling for me.
I will say I like the fact that the Jr. & Sr. can now enjoy archary. Maybe I will return to it for some early fun, or when I can no longer pull back 65 lbs.
Oh man I am jealous of you all. I picked up a second hand Hoyt in very good condition a couple of years ago, but have had no time to get out in the woods with it. But I have shot the hell out of a foam block from my back deck! Where I live in NW OH it is difficult to find places close to hunt.
Not enough woods, and where there are woods, the new owners that all the farmers have sold to don’t allow hunting. And then they all complain when Bambi eats their flowers and runs in front of their cars.
Somebody stick one for me!

heh. Was running down a trail by my local river when a little buck popped out of the brush not more than a couple steps ahead of me. Not sure which of us was more surprised.

Back in late spring I was running on a dirt path and stepped on a black snake that I had mistaken for one of many branches blown down the night before. I knew what sort of snake it was and that it was pretty much harmless even before I was completely off it, but I still yipped and danced like an idiot for a second. Funny that instinctive “get the hell away” response that comes from unexpectedly encountering a snake.

WTF does that have to do with hunting?

Funny thing is I know guys who drive 15 hours one way just to hunt the Ohio rut on public land. Is it really that good?

I see the accessibility issue, but I basically believe it’s laziness and not having to move to draw. Especially with modern let off’s.
Modern compounds can kill deer at 100 yards with practice. I’ve never pushed my pins past 60 yards. Maybe one day, but no real need in the east.

They are probably going to southeast Ohio. Yeah, it can be that good and then some. Corn, beans, woods full of acorns and LOTS of folks planting big plots of clover, alfalalfa, timothy etc. Heck there are even folks planting small apple orchards just to bring in the deer. I have heard that the deer in that area are both genetically superior and have access to better nutrition than many areas of the US.

Last year I took a buck and a doe during archery. Both from the same stand at 12 yds., 4 days apart. After butchering 2 that quick, I didn’t want to shoot again for awhile!
Counting down Oct 1st the slaughter begins!!!
Have bow, will hunt!
