Hunting for Beginners

Found a good looking tree and sat from 7:00 am to 10:00 am…arrived a little later than I’d hoped…believe I had some turkeys talking back to me, unless it was another human, but couldn’t get any to come where I could see them.

Hiked around from 10:00 to about 1:30, but didn’t scare anything up.

Had 3 does and 1 buck come within about 10 yards from me while I was calling the turkeys.

I consider it a good time.

Thanks for the words of advice fellahs![/quote]

Next time you go, when you think you hear them, start to move slowly that direction. You will have a very hard time calling them to you in the fall. Try your best to get in position where you will cut them off the way they are moving or if you spook them just sit and wait where you last saw them, occasionally letting out some soft feeding calls.

Not saying you did anything wrong but I learned best by taking an “unsuccessful” (is there even really a such thing) hunt and asking my dad how he would have handled a particular situation differently. He has a reputation for being something of a turkey hunting legend around my area so if he told me I did things like he would have that was all I needed to hear.
