You also need to factor in the artist. Different guys draw the characters in different ways. Some artists have Superman looking big, lean, ripped, and not too far off from an on stage bodybuilder. Other artists have him big but not overly lean or ripped (Alex Ross srpings to mind). The consistent word here is “big”. Regardless of whether he is dressed as Clark or Superman, he will always look bigger than the other guys around him.
I personally like the way Alex Ross draws him as it reminds me of the old Max Fleischer cartoons.
You have to admit huge weight swings do take a toll on your body regardless of age.
Especially for the white man whose penis has been known to stop working after the age of 40 (see black history thread)
Huge weight swings? 20 extra pounds on a man 6’2 is a “huge weight swing?” Who knew?
good point…
hell, I am only 5’6" and I fluctuate 5-7 lbs a day, sometimes a little more… depending on fluid intake and the size of the dump I take in the morning before I get on the scale.
For reference, I always pictured a movie Logan as closer to someone like Temuera Morrison (who’s around the 5’7" mark). He played Jango Fett in the Star Wars prequels, and is Abin Sur in the upcoming Green Lantern movie.
He’s a little too old for the role now, but there are flashes of pure Wolverine in these clips from Once Were Warriors:
6,000 calories? WOW. Unless they’re doing a ton of cardio and conditioning, I’m very surprised a 210lb, 42 year old needs that many calories. He must have a crazy metabolism.

You serious? I remember eating that much and more when I weighed that much and was trying to gain. What do some of you think muscle is built from? He’s 6’3" and trying to gain 20lbs. Further, why wouldn’t they be doing conditioning when he is on that tight of a schedule? You don’t avoid cardio completely when you have to be in front of cameras with your shirt off in months.

Jackman seems like a naturally lean guy. I’m sure he does have a fast metabolism. He has “bulked” up for the X-Men movies before with strict dieting and a structured workout schedule. If they say hes going to be eating 6,000 cals a day then they are probably basing that off of his previous “bulk” ups for other rolls.
(the word bulk is in quotations because I’m referring to it by Hollywoods standards)

Really X? You were 42? Or were you about half that age? Let’s not ignore that part of the equation. That’s what makes it surprising.
I expect that they have him doing some conditioning. The reason I’m suprised is that when I was 32, I was doing sprints once a week, lifting 5-6 days a week, and playing basketball twice a week. I weighed 230lbs at 6ft and I needed about 4,500 calories to gain around a lb a week.
I’m not saying he doesn’t need that many calories. His trainers know what they’re doing. I’m just shocked given my own experience as a 6ft 230 lb guy in his 30’s.

No offense but… Why does it matter how many calories you used to eat? You don’t look like Wolverine (comic book or movie) so why compare your gaining size to his attempt and use it in a condescending way towards another poster? Not really nessecary. (let the arguing/name calling commence)

Uhm, I made the relation because of when I used to weigh as much as he does. I did not compare what I eat NOW to what he is eating…so did you just miss that or what?
6,000cals a day to someone doing cardio and trying to add 20lbs of muscle in months is NOT by any means strange or abnormal…unless YOU haven’t done it before. Why would being 42 change that? I mean, if you guys haven’t noticed, 42 doesn’t mean what it used to. Half the guys in the Mr. O are near that age or older.

I never said anything about what you are eating “NOW”… So no, I didn’t “miss that or what.”
I never said that 6,000 cals a day was strange or abnormal (quite the contrary actually) also, I never once mentioned his age.

I HAVE done it before and that’s why I thought it was odd to me. Why would 42 change that? You know the answer that to that. It’s silly to compare your metabolism at 22 year old to a 42 year old who is 4 inches taller than you and probably carrying less muscle than you were at 22.
therajraj wrote:
Is it typical for someone of his height and weight to need 6000 calories to gain weight?
Everyone is different. There isn’t some set in stone guidelines for the number of calories you need to gain. You eat and if you’re not gaining weight… You eat more until you start gaining.
I never said anything about what you are eating “NOW”… So no, I didn’t “miss that or what.”
? You made a comment about how I don’t look like Wolverine…when was talking about how I ate when I only weighed about 200-210…so why make that comment if you understood I was discussing PAST events when I was closer to his stats?

No, what you did was jump in to reprimand me for some reason when the truth is, you should have been focusing on the guy who acted like simply being 42 hindered how you gain muscle to such a degree that no one younger could possibly relate.

But, I’m not 22 anymore…and I still agree with the statement. The man is a THIN 6’3" individual who appears to naturally be fairly thin. It is not a huge leap to think someone THAT TALL with THOSE GENETICS would need in excess of 5,000 or possibly even 6,000cals a day at times while also doing conditioning training to get ready for a movie role.
They are not going for long term success in the gym here. He will likely lose most of that right after the shooting is over.
Simply put, that much muscle will need way more calories with that much activity and that metabolism.

Who the fuck said that? Find the quote please. You can’t because you just made that shit up.
When did I say being 42 hindered how much muscle you gain? How do you make such a crazy jump in logic?
All I said was that I was surprised he needed that many calories based on my own experiences. I never said he didn’t need that many or that he was “hindered”.
Your habit of putting words in peoples mouths is mind blowing.

WTF? Why mention his age AT ALL if you didn’t mean to imply that his age was going to change how his body produced muscle reducing his food intake?

Also, this was your first post. Why wouldn’t a 210lbs guy need to eat way more to gain that much muscle while doing conditioning training? What does his age have to do with that process? Someone might gain muscle slower as they age and even lose fat slower, but the same mechanism remains and that much muscle uses way more calories especially on someone that tall in the first place.

I’m not going to argue with you because it’s pointless. All I was and am saying is that being condescending in your response wasn’t nessecarry. If you feel ‘reprimanded’ by that comment then so be it.
I do agree that being 42 (as opposed to 22 or even 32) can be a hindrance in gaining muscle BUT it’s definitely not anything thats impossible (especially when you’re getting paid millions of dollars to do so, have unlimited access to food, supps equipment and even drugs)
You or I gaining 20lbs vs Hugh Jackman gaining 20lbs isn’t even comparable. People (other posters who have said or eluded to it) who think it sounds like a lot aren’t thinking about the circumstances. Jackman is being paid a lot of money to do it, has someone saying “eat this much”, “lift this”, “run this far” all the while he doesn’t have to go to a 9-5 job or anything like that. He can eat, sleep, train and live in the gym for the next several months without much outside distractions. Most of us don’t have that luxury
