I have a bottle of HRX which has an expiry date of 1/2010. Its been stored in my closet at home…Is it still safe to use so close to expiry date?

Yes, it’s fine.
There is no sharp cutoff point to say that this day is good but the next is bad: the label expiration date is quite conservative.
