How Much Protein In One Sitting?

There’s no such thing as your body not absorbing protein. It gets used as it gets digested. The more protein you eat, the longer it will digest, and it will be absorbed as it digests.

This is the case of course with the average person. If you eat 10,000 calories of protein a day, and you only need 3,000 of them, you probably will store the other 7k on your body. But over-eating protein has NEVER been heard of.

That’s not all true. You typically digest and utilize about 90% of the protein you consume, the rest is excreted.
Digestion rate has more to do with protein type and food combinations than the amount.

Excess protein is RARELY stored as body fat; rather, it is simply excreted from the body.

It just doesn’t make sense physiologically because it takes a lot of time and work for the body to convert proteins into fat.
As others have stated, shoot for at least 1g/lb and you’ll be good to go!
Good post.

I think what I’ll take most from posting this question, is to choose my words carefully. Never has the word ‘absorb’ caused so much confusion and head scratching. I would have thought the collective intelligence of T-Nation readers would have been able to read between the lines and interpret a simple question without using it as a vehicle to further their own agendas.

it was not too dissimilar to the image of the skinny runt getting sand kicked in his face by all the he-men.

“knowledge is power”. most of you seem incredibly knowledgeable on nutrition. what a shame you aren’t capable of sharing that knowledge without throwing in some barbed comment designed to both highlight and deride any perceived lack of knowledge in this area by the one posing the question.

we all have to start somewhere. the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. i want to further my understanding of nutrition. i thought this forum might help. all it’s done is invite spineless types to take pot shots at a sitting duck.
about a week or so ago, I made fun of someone for being so specific because I thought that the people could read between the lines. Then I looked in the beginners forum and realized that some people are idiots. I’m willing to bet there is someone who would have taken this thread to mean that you’re going to shit half a steak if you eat a huge ribeye. As to the original q. I would say that if you just eat smaller meals more frequently it shouldn’t matter, and to concentrate on trying to get slow digesting proteins that will keep you fueled for a while instead of giving you a spike of AA’s and then nothing.

Can you wash it of and eat it again like corn and peanuts?
