I think the judgement of how "Irish "you are should be in your drinking ability. My best friend Larry Caskey is 100% “Irish” or “Irish-American” and he was born in Kentucky. Larry could down a Guinnes like it was water. This man I saw funnel Vodka…

If that is the case I should change my name to Patty FitzPatrick
…and I’ll be Guinness McGuinness

Helga… that’s a beer drinking name if I’ve ever heard of one.

The real question here should have been… “Who can drink more, the Irish or the Germans”, I think its a close one with A.A. written all over the winning nationality.

100% irish here!!! lol

On my Dad’s side, Grandfather was Orange and Grand-mom was Green, but they met & married in the States. Both my Mom’s parents were from Scotland.

I had opportunity to take a nine+ month break from drinking back when Saddam invaded Kuwait. On my way home to Campbell, we had aircraft problems and were forced to deplane after landing at 3AM in Shannon. Though we were locked in on the international flights side of the airport, dressed in our desert tree-suits with side-arm or rifle, the nicest best tasting slow-pour pints I’ve ever had were that morning in Ireland.

Guinness is a nectar of the Gods, particularly at room temperature.

I would have to go with the Scandinavians, Russians and Polish for the best drinkers award.

They drink extra strong vodka raw, like we drink water.

But on the other hand i know irish people who would quite easily drink 1 litre of vodka (37.5 units)in a night.

Exactly where do American’s come from? What is an American? I would love for you to define one. We are a mixed country of different nationalites, more than any other country.

Australia is in exactly the same situation as what you just mentioned.

As I said before I was born in Australia and consider myself Australian despite the fact that my older sisiter, parents, grandparents, great grandparents and even further back are all english.

I think in some situations it may be a pride issue. I love Australia, I love the fact that I was born here, and despite where my family is from I am proud to be an Australian.

Maybe you are ashamed of being American or think that it is cooler or more sophisticated to be considered something other than American, if that is the case, go ahead and call you chinese because if you were born in the US you are just as much mongolian as you are irish.

This doesnt mean that you dont have to forget your heritage or ancestery or not be proud of it, but if you are born in the US, you are American.

Just my $0.02
My woman was born in england, has an Irish dad and an English mother yet has lived in Ireland all her life. What nationality would you say she is.

She tells people she’s irish and feels irish.

By the way Australia rocks! lol.

Seriously, you guys are making is too easy. Born in England - English. Lives in Ireland = Lives in Ireland. Its not a difficult concept.
And secondly, i dont believe you have a girlfriend.

All joking aside, America was built mostly by the Irish. The Irish were the most abused and villified Europeans, yet did most of the fighting and building of this country. America is, for the most part, a child of Ireland.

So, anyone descended from these people can, in justice, call themselves Irish. Their ancestors earned it for them.

Headhunter

Damn right - even all the great boxers were Irish - Tunney, Jack Dempsey, Muhammad Ali etc.

Very true to a point. It really depends were in Amerika you’re talking about. The Irish where looked down upon a great deal and lot them took jobs working on the rail road. My Irish roots all had railroad jobs. While working out in the field my Great Grandfather contracted pneumonia. He died in a box car headed to Los Angeles, he was seeking medical help.

The Irish also had very notorious gangs in New York City.

Does anyone remember in public school not being allowed to call ourselves American that we had to know where our ancestors came from?

Ali was Irish, I wasn’t sure?

I agree the Irish played a large part in shaping America, the Irish were not even thought of as caucasian, but WASPS and especially WASPS from the 18th/19th century are regressively retarded.

The Irish were able to adjust and assimilate much easier than other ethnic groups though, due to their pale pink whitish skin and the fact that their mother tongue was a form of English, they found good government jobs (police fire department et cetera). So I think the persecution was very temporary, and many groups played a role in building our murderous yet beautiful nation, slaves were here a bit longer, and now Mexican immigrants are doing jobs similar to those of the past.

By the way is it true that on average Irish men are handsome while Irish women are not so? My uncle took a trip to Ireland and spotted this, but I am not sure if it has any relevancy. I am talking about Ireland itself. I doubt it though.

Oh yeah, you’ve heard of the “Fighting Irish”, haven’t you?

But seriously, Ali’s great-grandfather was a man named Abe Grady, who immigrated to the United States from County Clare, right around the Civil War.

I doubt if this makes him Irish enough for our Supermick, of course.
