How Many Irish on T-Nation?

I know pluralism is encouraged in the US but its a bit pathetic to be honest. 10th generation Irish lad in Boston, has a shamrock tattoo and is as irish as my goldfish.
Your American FFS.

My ancestors were from Once great civilizations, one of which were Vikings. I am however not a viking.
I have some viking ancestors too. My grandmother was very English despite the fact that her father was born in Dublin. Two of my other grandparents were ethnic Irish born in England. They didn’t talk about being Irish back in England, because of all the predjudice.

What you are not appreciating is what coming to America has meant for the Irish here. There are over forty million Irish Americans. That is over eight times the population of Ireland. They are the third largest ethnic group after the English and Germans.

Here in the US the Irish were able to enjoy freedom and a lifestyle they could not enjoy back in the old country. The US is where the Irish nationalists were able to organise and raise money so they could take their country back from the British. So Irish nationalism is very ingrained in the culture here.

By civil war? Sending money to IRA/Sinn Fein? do you condone this?

What’s Scotch-Irish? Scotland and Ireland are two quite distinct countries. We’re small, granted, but very different!!

Both the Irish and Scots are what is left of Britain’s Celts. When the Saxons invaded they drove the Celts North into Scotland and west into Wales and Ireland. This is why Scottish and Irish family names are identical except Scots are Mac’s, Irish are Mc’s (micks) ie Macdonald, McDonald, MacGregor, McGregor, MacPherson, McPherson etc…

They both were Roman Catholics until the Scottish reformation in 1560 created the Protestant Presbyterian church.

So the Scots and Irish are very much related, this why the Norman English used to pit them against each other. This is why they had the scene in Braveheart where the Scots faced an army of Irish mercenaries who betrayed the English and sided with the Scots.

Later when the English invaded Ireland the English imported Protestant Scots because they were Celts who were loyal to the Crown, so they got preferential treatment. Then in the 1920’s when the Irish republic was created the British kept the northern portion of Ireland because that is where the most of the former Scots were located right across from Scotland. This how they got the Protestant Loyalists in Belfast having problems with the Catholics.

I can really appreciate wanting to get the British out. The mentality of the British can be really fucked up. However coming from an English/Irish family I can’t say I approve of violence going in either direction. From my perspective it’s like fighting amongst family.

All joking aside, America was built mostly by the Irish. The Irish were the most abused and villified Europeans, yet did most of the fighting and building of this country. America is, for the most part, a child of Ireland.

So, anyone descended from these people can, in justice, call themselves Irish. Their ancestors earned it for them.

I agree,
Irish people actually are the only people to no mater how much Irish blood you have or where you were born they say they are Irish.

100% pure blood, stout swillin’ oirish.

Nobody seems to understand that Americans tend to identify themselves with the birthplace of their parents or ancestors. I think everybody understands citizenship, but many people from other countries were born and bred there and don’t ‘get’ that anybody would identify themselves as anything other than where they were born.

Do I have to explain that America is particularly unique in this way? Perhaps not, but I will anyway. I’ve seen this argument on T-Nation many times. But repetition is what it is. So, listen Euro bitches. We are from a place where Europeans came, the best of them I believe, and made a great country. We still identify with those places we are from, even though they may have oppressed us out and got their asses beat as a result. We have European roots, but we are something different. This I think we can agree.

We are American by birth, and not one of us would forsake or deny that. Or, not one of us should. However, we still respect from whence we came, regardless of the series of events that landed us here. Grit your teeth at it as you will, but were proud of our country and our past. Even if you think it merits none. We do not care. The United States is prideworthy. You can throw up war, you can say whatever you want. All eyes are always on America. Slide left, you complain…Slide right… you complain. We put men on the moon time after time and you doubt it. You shouldn’t. Because you KNOW…it was possible, and we took advantage of the possibility like no other. We planted our flag and you were jealous. Awestricken… and jealous.

So I could end with an America… fuck yeah! But I won’t. I know all you socialist wanting mofos will hate …but you’re all a disappointment anyway. I hate that my well traveled ancestors did what they did, for you to shit all over everything. Bunch of pussies. Have some respect for your forefathers that died for you to spew cunt bullshit on the forums of the future. Talk about in vein.

In closing…

Go USA … olympic pride <3
