Yes I’m a drug store retail manager but have managed other retail operations over 40 years. This is the worst I’ve ever seen as far as panic.
I still just don’t get the toilet paper thing?
I feel so sorry for my diabetic patients who can’t find any alcohol swabs for their injections because of the hoarding.
Yes. I am able to work from home but when this is over I don’t know if I want to continue in my profession. I was having second thoughts already but seeing how quickly life can change as well as people dying hooked up to machines has given me some extra motivation to pursue something else.
For starters, my gym (as well as all the others in my area) are closed. I ordered a Total Gym with express shipping from Costco, and hoping it comes tomorrow before my progress is affected any further.
I also work in an emergency room, so everything has been more of a pain lately. I agree we should take reasonable measures to protect vulnerable populations, but closing gyms wasn’t necessary. People who are high-functioning enough to go workout will know not to go if they’re sick.
What if they don’t know they are infected, pass it on to someone at the gym who then brings it home to get their family sick?
I really hope you don’t hold a medical role in the emergency room, because this lack of understanding is why thousands of people are currently dying.
Unbelievable Jeff!
I honestly thought this when I read this post!
One of my neighbors (the sheriff) had back to back parties this weekend. 6-8 cars parked outside both Friday and Saturday nights. Some are not taking this seriously at all.
Here’s an update as my work day is winding down now – I have a dedicated office at my house, so I’ve been working at home. Lots of panicky businesses.
And to back up, in Israel our house in Israel is very rural (for Israel) in the Golan. Have wife (although she works days at the hospital and remains on call), all 8 daughters home, two son-in-laws (one deployed on the Syrian border and one daughter deployed elsewhere, but her husband is here and kids), 4 grandchildren, and 4 youngest daughters. Kind of a sprawling farmlet, so there is plenty of room, if not luxury.
We’ve been homeschooling – and it’s damn rigorous, as the schools were pre-set-up to do this, but expecting schools to be shut for things like Iranian missiles. So solid 6 hours or so of work for the school age kids (elementary to college). Computer-monitored (via web cam) tests, even. Constant reminders from teachers that Anne Frank kept up her studies in the attic to prevent slackers (which resulted in a “fat lot of good that did her” response from the pre-teen).
The eldest group of daughters have stepped in, and we have pretty much regular school so far.
Been great until I found out that they binge-watched “The Punisher” last night with the little ones. Also “Scream” TV show. Now the grandson is running around with some sort of gargoyle mask. And one daughter scared.
I’m taking him for a walk, may go fishing in the tank. No clue if there are any fish in it except catfish (which are not kosher, and have to be thrown back, which results in much weeping and gnashing of teeth).
I will be drinking beer, as we need to finish it off before Passover.
Also, we have no Matzo (or not enough). So we may go old school and make it.
As a regular lurker here, and only a relative new poster on here, I would like to thank you for the time you put into posting on this forum. I’ve read nearly every post from the the last two or three years, and have followed your story in the various threads… you are certainly a better man than me, and honestly someone who I aspire to be.
Anyway, sorry, should be in the Flame Free, because obviously I have a man crush lol
All the best to you and your family.
God bless…
Tim
Massachusetts had an employee of a hospital attend a mixer after being told by his doctor that he likely had coronavirus and not to go anywhere. I love your idea though - people will just always do the correct and sensible thing, because honor system. Very tactical. What’s more, how do you work in an emergency room and not know that people can be asymptomatic and transmit the virus? Or that they can transmit the virus before symptoms even show? I’m so confused by this.
Well, I just cancelled my family’s trip the U.K because of this stupid thing. I had set up 8 days of airline travel, train travel, hotels, car rental, everything was nice and tight… and now its all cancelled.
Not sure when or if we are going to try again.
As far as the home front goes, the Texas governor authorized the delivery of alcohol along with food. So glad we don’t live in NY or CA!! LOL
Of course, grocery stores are being overrun but we are doing ok here. Seem to have everything we need except for sugar. Supposedly we are getting a curbside pickup of some dry goods in a week. When the grocery stores open, the lines wrap around the building. Ridiculous.
That is really a bummer about your trip. I know a few couples that are planning on getting married in April. I don’t think those are going to happen. I wonder if they get their deposits back? Probably not?
I had to request for full refund on airline tickets and train tickets. I went thru booking.com for hotels and car rental. All but one hotel was free cancellation and I contacted them asking for a refund. We’ll see what happens.
Welp. Just got the order to shelter in place. Not much changes for me honestly.
In my area they have closed all the non essential businesses so my gyms are closed but liquor stores are open? They even closed the small key pad gyms like Anytime fitness. I guess booze is more important than fitness.
Hah I was going to say the same thing, I’m in Western NY.
Although if you think about it, it kind of makes sense. I was speaking with someone about this the other day… There would be an uprising from all regular drinkers/alcoholics if liquor stores shut down, not to mention possible hospitalization from withdrawal effects for serious cases.
That’s the answer right here. Reading the list of symptoms that alcohol withdrawal can result in and it’s not difficult to appreciate that is not something desirable to have happen en masse.
We are supposed to move tomorrow. Supposedly the county is issuing a shelter in place order this afternoon. Not sure what that means for us. I moved up the U-haul pickup date to today, just in case. This is all so surreal. We’ve already paid the rent at the new place. Can’t afford to pay rent here also if we get stuck.
This might not be popular, but I modded my Bowflex (was about to trash it) to add more weight with bands. It’s not optimal for the big 3 but can work with it. I have a lat tower also, so that helps. Making the most out of being grounded.
