All those stupid SAts/ ap tests are screwed up, which is totally screwing over my brother’s chances of getting into an acceptable uni. If that wasn’t bad enough, my mom is freaking out and all hells breaking loose
On a side note, apparently covid attacks organs including the kidneys. That’s kind of freaking me out considering I functionally am down to 1.333kidneys
Not COVID-related per-se, but a paper mill about 30 minutes north of me exploded yesterday. Everyone was worried that the injury and deaths would be horrific, but miraculously there were no serious injuries.
That was the best news I’ve heard in a while. Now, check out this awesome explosion that happens when things go wrong at a paper mill digester. Watch the whole thing. What goes up, must come down.
Different angle that shows how massive the cloud was.
I saw that on Facebook yesterday and initially thought it was local (or more local).
We had a midsize employer go out of business after a fire a couple of years ago, and it really rippled through the community. Lot of jobs lost relative to our population. I would imagine it will be the same with the paper mill. I’m sorry.
At this point everyone is just amazed that nobody got hurt. Cars were crushed by falling debris and it may very well have been the largest explosion ever in Maine.
When I saw the explosion yesterday I thought for sure it was going to be really bad. A “what’s next?” kinda dreadful feeling came over me all day yesterday. People were scrambling to find out if their people who worked there were okay.
Then we found out nobody was hurt, which was just incredible.
Nobody knows what’s next for that mill, but that was true before the explosion.
Happy no one was hurt. I do wonder if that shit ate the paint up on those trucks. I would be have been pissed ! I bet the guys at the truck wash was like WTF did you do to this truck? Thisis going to cost an extra $100
I was at the grocery store today. there was a designated lineup with a person counting people going out and letting people in in proportion. As soon as I got in, a person gave my hand a spritz of sanitizer. I took a basket selected my stuff (barely anything on sale, but maybe inventories are limited) and had to go through a circuit to get to where a person directed me to a cashier. A mistake was made, and i ended up somewhere else. The cash station was all armoured up with plexiglass, and there was no direct speaking hole.
I had a bill of CAD$57.60. I thought it polite of course to use a card in the machine and not make the cashier handle my dirty cash currency. My card declined, and I remembered that it was my old card, left there as a pick pocket decoy, and my new card was stashed at home. I had $50 cash currency, but like I am saying, I didn’t want to make her handle it.
I was about to have something taken off when she said, “don’t worry, give me the $50, and I will tap my card for the rest”. Huh? She said it another couple of times, and said she wants me to be nice to someone somewhere. What do you know, she actually did it.
Other than that, I am living fairly high off of Employment Insurance Emergency Benefits. I am supposed to be ready, willing and able to work, but I can be excused for not running up a lot of job applications. Actually, this coming week I will see what I can find for after this slightly sore throat goes away, different symptoms from when I thought I had Covid-19.
I more recently when I got over what I thought was Covid-19 got back to exercise maybe too fast and the result is this little bug I have now. An Ontario Telehealth nurse I talked to said I am probably fine to go out shopping and such.
Ok we know covid is killing and it’s worse then a lot of past pandemic situations our generations have experienced. But let’s talk future and foresight. What do you guys think about the vaccines and about the current death tolls and “peaks” we are reaching. Apparently slot of places are near the top of their worst and deaths will continue but will this ever level out and be like the common comparison that’s made- the flu? Do flu vaccines help? Will covid vaccines help. Come the fall when they’re expected if human trials go well (as per oxford U and 4 other places testing on humans now)
This school thing. They have to change the name of the communication platform from Classtag to Cracktag.
For task oriented communication I need the 5 W’s not a bunch of chickens with their heads cut of being wrangled by the kids (adults with children) who want to be the teachers pet.
Today was the first day he woke up free of symptoms, so all seems to be going well with the recovery. He’s getting a call from the Health Department on Friday to discuss next steps and when the self-quarantine can end. Now that he’s feeling good I’m expecting him to push for another week of self-quarantine, no chores and very limited work. Just to be safe, you know.
No symptoms at all in his wife and children, who will probably remain untested for the near future at least.
The surrealness of the whole situation has more or less worn off now…it’s the new normal now…tis getting quite tedious now! I’d quite like to wander around my village wearing a dog or Gorilla costume (for the LOLS!!!) and to break up the tedium but they don’t seem to be anything in my size, lol. I’ve even started re-learning algebra , lol (since I never really got my head it as a kid). Boobs!
Unrelated to my brother’s condition, some of the people I know are getting fed up. There are still people who’ve received no assistance whatsoever, and my state’s unemployment system is seemingly weeks behind.
I’ve had a few friends reach out privately to let me know that their particular services are resuming. I haven’t replied yet, but it’s nice to know that getting a haircut or massage on the black market is now an option for me.
Sadly, it is probably only a matter of time before they message the wrong person and get plastered over social media so some sad fuck can virtue signal.
What are they supposed to do for money right now? Beg?
The govt stimulus checks and unemployment checks should help, even if they are late. Food pantries would be an option for the immediate term.
I just don’t understand how so many people can live through 10 years of a booming economy and not have enough money saved for an 8 week stint of unemployment. It blows my mind that folks learned squat from 12 years ago when they went bust. Doesn’t change the FACT that they need help now though.
Are you raising kids on a limited income? The people who have reached out to me are, and I’m not so sure they’d describe the economy they’ve experienced as booming. There’s also no shortage of adults just entering the workforce. We all make our own choices, but mine had me poor for about my first year of independence, week-to-week on everything.
