Right. I signed up for the military when I was 17. I was old enough to goto war, and die for my country, but not old enough to drink or smoke a cigar with my unit. I was old enough to fight for a meaningless war, but not old enough to sleep with my hot math teacher.

I’m astonished that such a law could even be considered constitutional. How is that a legal penalty can be held over and above the established general law on an individual based on their profession.
Perhaps I’m thinking narrowly, and it’s likely that such a situation occurs with other professions. Nonetheless, it seems absurd to me. The error here is in poor (very poor) professional judgment, as such the penalty should be professionally based. Were any other non-teaching 26 year old women to fuck an 18 year old guy, there’d be nothing to it.
Further, what if a 26 year old teacher from Houston, is vacationing somewhere else in Texas and fucks an 18 year old high school student, does the same law apply, or is it only illegal if the teacher fucks one of her/his own consenting adult students.
I agree, stupid law. Justice should be measured by it’s ability to restore balance and order to the majority. Any penalty to this woman over and above barring her from teaching in the future is not in the spirit of justice.
huh,i see this in a humerous light.there is a Titans(football team)cheerleader that teaches at my school.shes black bout 5’3 105lbs and toned,shes hot.there are also a few other teachers who are stacked and dont look bad at all.we all hit on them and what not but they always say no(poor me).

Now for the punishment.I really think prison isn’t the way to go,but if we have to go that way no more then 5 years max.I would just fire her and tell her to find a new profession.As a 17 year old boy who daydreams about this kinda crap in my AP classes,WE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE DOING,we dont get taken advantage of because we are getting what we want and never(to my knowledge)get in trouble for it,the teacher always does.

bottom line-20 years is way too severe,not letting them teach is fair to me,if we have to go the prison route 5 years max,and if the kid is legal and their is consent then neither party should get in any kind of trouble

I’m curious to know how you managed to filter out that single quote from my post, but utterly missed the part where I said that I thought the penalty was far too harsh.
I think she crossed an ethical boundary. I don’t believe that student/teacher fraternization should be tolerated, and I think that – at the very least – if it’s proven, it should end the teacher’s career. Legal punishment is also fitting, even if they’re consenting adults. After all, they’ve just thrown the quality of education of all other students under that teacher/professor into question.
But 20 years? No. Especially not when the government seems incapable of punishing rapists and pedophiles with proper severity.

I am with you on ending the Teachers career. But prosecution of people that make bad choices is not what our laws were intended to do.
