This lady goes to jail.

In the meantime, Jon Corzine is responsible for the theft of over $1.6 billion and will probably never see the inside of a court room, much less a jail.

He didn’t STEAL it, he just MISPLACED it!

First, he didn’t know what happened but he was gonna find out.
Second, he resigned as CEO.
Third, he takes the 5th.
Corslime should ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY DEFINATELY go to jail.

Much as I agree, I don’t think we should subvert the 5th amendment. :frowning:

Exactly, it’s very much come full circle now. The system was set up to circumvent issues like personal wealth, the judges personal issues, the lawyers personal problems, who you know, etc. to get to the truth. Now it’s back to being very subjective to the element of human error. For instance, it doesn’t really matter if you are guilty or not, if the judge hates you and wants you to go to prison, to prison you shall go.
We are all one little tiny circumstance away from being bent over a jail-rail and ass raped by entire cell block.
You don’t have to do anything wrong, just be at the wrong place at the wrong time and look the wrong way and you are fucked.

I get that it was illegal, and we have to follow the law and all that, but how does this warrant 5 years in prison? Seriously, I thought that the punishment was supposed to fit the crime. 5 years for enrolling her son in a public school just seems like overkill. Oh, and that claim of $15,000 + in free education is bullshit. They should have used her income to determine how much she would have paid in taxes to support the school if she had lived there. I guarantee it would have been much lower than $15,000. Probably zero or close to it.

Well, the whole system in the US would collapse if everyone actually insisted on his right to get a trial.

90% of all cases are plea bargained, greatly helped by the fact that a DA can pile regulation, on regulation, on regulation on top off each other till you cave in.

Because, lets face it 400 years in jail is no fun at all.

Obviously people who feel that they have no prayer fighting this in court will feel the sharp end of the stick of such a system.

I hesitate to call it a judicial system, it just does not sound right.

It doesn’t. It’s sad really. People do far worse and get less. The sentence is a crime. Still got to have a little sense of humor sometimes. Geez people.

Why should he go to jail because he takes the 5th?
