AVP, i was really looking forward to this. i think its the closest ive been to walking out of a cinema.Maybe my expectations were too high, but with two of the most badass aliens in movie history i think the standards should be high.
it was set in a rubix cube, and the predators got their asses handed to them on a plate. i just hope it doesnt damage any futures sequels, id love another predator movie, but with the current spate of movies being made, maybe they should leave it alone.
Your expectations weren’t too high. They just royally screwed it up. That movie could have been classic and could have started its own franchise had they really brought both stories together better.
I thought that after seeing Mr. Wayland at the beginning (the eventual father of Bishop and apparently one guy who was cloned more times than anyh being alive) they were really going to give something special. Instead, we got crap. I even bought the dvd just out of the simple fact that I grew up the characters, but I may never get over what they did to them.
I still cry at night.

I was watching the flick with my ex and felt the need to defend the predators every time an alien would kill ‘em. Me:"It wouldn’t go down like that. One predator can kill a couple dozen aliens. They’re fuckin’ this movie up. " Her:" I think you’re taking this too seriously." Me:" I think you should leave my house."
They could’ve done so much with that franchise and they completely dropped the ball.
One movie that screams of incorrect casting to me is DaVinci Code. reading the book, there isn’t anything about Langdon in my minds eye that looks even remotely like Tom Hanks. Hell, on what I expected, the role could have been marky Mark or a younger Harrison Ford. I would have preferred a no name. I guess they had to go with a name. At least it wasn’t Chris Rock.
I worship Metal Gear, dating from the original (for America, anyway) NES version. That worship is why I’m hoping they’ll never make a live-action movie out of it. Sadly, Hollywood has so few original ideas that they’re turning to comic books, video games, and bestsellers now.
AvP was a total waste of money. I never read the Dark Horse comic books, nor any of the “Aliens” movies, but I saw the original “Predator”. Not only did they make the Predators look stupid and careless, but they also gave us the most predictable ending to a movie EVER.
Yes, mathematicians cracked the code, but not without some help from the war side of things. I believe that we in fact did retrieve a significant number of Enigma documents from a submarine that was JUST about to be sunk (we being the Allies, as I’m not trying to a pompous American ass here, although I am one). The captain had set the scuttle charges but they didn’t go off or something. Check any good U-boat history.
Not to say the movie was any good, but do get your facts straight.

As far as I am aware the events in the movie did happen, but with one slight difference… it was a BRITISH crew that captured the enigma machine not an american one.
Guess that is the studio playing to their biggest audience…

Troy
There’s a reason it’s called “Troy” and not “The Iliad”. Essentially it’s a look at what COULD have happened in real life. In REAL life, there are no gods, and there was no way Achilles was invincible. So how do you explain the myth of Achilles? Make him the ultimate warrior…strong, lethal, but above all fast and technically perfect.
I won’t defend any other aspect of the movie, I just thought that the method of telling the story had merit.[/quote]
Absolutely agree with this, I also loved the way they explained the achilles heal thing…
He pulls out all the arrows except the one in his heal before he dies, then people see the body of the great (regarded as invincible) warrior Achilles lying dead seemingly from an arrow to the heal, and the legend could spread from there.
I actually enjoyed the movie, although it was a bit long and Orlando Bloom’s character was a whiny prick.

And Hopkins was an excellent choice for the role in terms of acting ability, but make up couldve done a much better job - Lecter has blonde hair and RED eyes.

Wow, the author wasn’t much one for subtlety huh? Honestly I’m thankful they changed this; Hannibal Lector with red eyes would have been really stupid and cheesy.

I would mostly agree with the sentiment, but realize that there ALWAYS has to be compromise because you are adapting things from completely different media.
Anyways, a few comments to the CONTRARY:

Ok, even if this had the remote possibility of being truthful, how he hell does it realate to a boat load of americans and bon jovi? Dont get me wrong, living on a prayer is a work of art but as far as casting goes. Not good.
Its does however relate to an interesting story thats not been told of a the mathamatical genius who was spurned in his younger days by the academic establishment - hence hollywoods missed oportunity.
AVP, I was so looking forward to this and was disappointed as well. To say that the Preds were young and this was a test of their manhood to go up against the Aliens… well that may explain some mistakes they made along the way, however it still was messed up. Didn’t they realize that the pyramid was activated by mistake? So they send in rookie hunters? It’s been awhile since I saw it so my recollection may be off, but if you didn’t see the 2nd movie “Aliens” then Wayland’s role was weak in the movie, I expected more like everyone else.

Between Aliens and Aliens 3, they built up the idea that Bishop was an android based on Wayland…who was cloned several times over far into the future. I personally think it was a cool idea and it sucks that they didn’t use it to its full potential.

Nah, the elder predators were probably having a conversation that went like:
Elder 1: Oh hell, the pyramid’s activated. Should we help them?
Elder 2: Nah, screw them. We have thousands of new blood coming in anyway.
Elder 3: He’s right, let’s go grab a beer.
Elder 2: Betcha they’re all gonna get their asses kicked.
AvP was a half baked movie. It got less baked the second and subsequent times I watched it.
