High-T vs. Low-T Men

We saw this in an article talking about the same study I reviewed here: Are Low-T Men Dirty Lying Cheaters?

Basically, in the study, high-T men (researchers dosed them with testosterone) were less likely to cheat in a game, even if they knew they could get away with it.

To them, lying wasn’t just about external consequences, like being caught. It was also about internal consequences: how you feel about yourself afterward. High-T men enjoy winning and high status, but “cheating is a low-status choice that’s beneath them.”

Anyway, good quote. Seems to apply to a lot of things in life. Feel free to disagree or discuss.

The pic at the top got my wheels turning! The idea of men asking “is this true” versus “will others be okay with me thinking this is true” is fascinating.

Is it a testosterone thing though? Because if you go on Instagram, you’ll see a lot of jacked men who seem to care very deeply about what other people think of them. And I’m pretty sure most are asking, “is this going to get me attention, is it trendy, and will it increase my followers?” And those questions have more to do with what other people will think of them than with discussing the truth.

So, sure, I could see testosterone being a factor that makes people have the courage to put their thoughts out there, but some seem to think they’re being courageous when they’re just parroting what’s already trendy. There’s no risk in doing that.

Obviously, this idea of going along with the consensus applies to women too, but again, I hesitate to call it a testosterone thing. I could see testosterone being a factor, but maybe not the whole reason.

My guess is that personal values would play the largest role. Those who value agency and independent thought will be less likely to care about the opinions of other people.
