my goal is to work in federal law enforcement and to do that i need a degree. i want to major in computer science instead of criminal justice because just in case something happens to me in law enforcement i can find another job with my computer science degree. my first year of college i want to try my best so i can try to win a 3 year rotc scholarship for either the army or airforce. after college i want to join the military for a couple years and after i want to join federal law enforcement.

to accomplish my goals getting a degree is mandatory. the schools i want to apply to are some of the cheapest schools in texas.[/quote]

Major in Computer Science and minor in Criminal Justice. It can be done.
What fields are you looking at in the military? Will they translate to what you want to do when you return to civilian life?
Do you really want to join the military or are you just looking at the ROTC scholarship?

I will speak with a bit of authority, then, because this was actually my plan. I got my degree in criminal justice from Sam Houston State and actually was selected for an internship with the FBI in Houston during my final semester. I was offered a position with the FBI after graduation (not as an agent), but had to turn it down for personal/family reasons.

I can tell you that the last thing federal law enforcement wants is a criminal justice degree. They like accountants with language ability. If you can speak a foreign language, you can write your own ticket into federal law enforcement. If you can speak Spanish, you will be a part of the drug/narcotics fight. If you can speak Russian, Chinese, Korean, or any of the middle eastern languages you will get snatched right up to work counter-terrorism. I know a girl that spoke Russian, Mandarin, and Brazilian Portuguese. She faxed her resume in to the FBI (completely ignoring their normal hiring/application procedure) and she got a call from the FBI and the CIA 3 hours after the fax. They wanted her to come in for interviews right away. Your military plan is an excellent idea, and combined with the computer science I think you can do it. Not that you asked, but here is my suggested plan for you

College (computer science) → Military (Ideally some kind of intelligence work) → While in the military develop a foreign language skill → When you are 6 month to a year away from finishing your time in the military, contact a recruiter for whichever federal law enforcement agency you are interested in and start the process.

The college and military part can also be combined. I don’t have much knowledge on this, but I know it is possible to go to college while in the military and maybe get some financial help.

Just my two cents. Take it for what its worth.

Yes. I have absolutely no doubt. Go for it.
