High Hemoglobin - Should I Be Concerned?

It’s been high the past few times I’ve gotten mg test. My doctor is not overly concerned. He just said I need to donate blood every 3-6 months. The issue at hand is that it increases my chance to have a heart attack or stroke. How much research has anyone done on this? Should I see a heart doc too?

Well for starters how about some context? Age? Are you currently on trt? How much per week? How long have you been on? What’s your hemoglobin at present? Will you be ceasing trt if you are in fact on? What’s your HCT? Any other heart disease risks? Any other general health risks?

Sorry about that. I’m 41, I take .2 E3D for a year now. It’s been as high as 17 but currently 16.4. Heart health is an issue on my moms side. I had my heart check last year around summer time and everything looked great. I guess I am concerned maybe it could change at any moment. HGB and HCT are mentioned as high together so I’m not sure. It has a number next to HGB which I believe is hemoglobin. Thanks for your help

This is the hemoglobin range Quest uses:13.2-17.1 g/dL.

That doesn’t sound terribly high. Back off the red meat for a while and stay hydrated. Otherwise you’re not going to like the next option. Donating blood is a nice thing to do. Go ahead and do it if you want to help save some people’s lives. But don’t be fooled into thinking it meaningfully helps with hemoglobin or HCT. Your body is pretty good at replacing lost blood. (Otherwise you’d die a lot easier under any number of circumstances) The dramatic decrease from donation will last a few weeks, max, if you’re still using the drug that raised it in the first place.

Good tip on the red meat. I do love a steak. I try to drink a lot of water but I could do better there too. I will donate blood about every 4-6 months. I may visit the heart doc once a year just to be sure.
