It is. In the sense that it can reproduce within the marriage naturally. That’s not the only thing marriage does. Hell, marriage doesn’t even do that. You don’t need to be married for that.

The population wouldn’t just shrink, it would implode. Do really think that people missing their sexual impulse are going to simply choose to reproduce in any approachable number? It would be a population implosion. Hence the pleasurable payoff to commit the reproductive act as imparted by natural selection. We have that for a reason through our evolution.

Also, if a horde of alien creatures invades the planet and uses its magic to switch all sexuality on the planet, we’ll need those gays to exist to flip to hetero. My scenario is far more plausible anyways.
