Help Budget My Supps.

Hey everyone,
I’m on a limited budget in terms of what I can buy as it relates to supplements. Here’s what I’m taking now:

ZMA ($9/bottle from Biotest)
Fish Oil (GNC brand, buy the 360 capsules)
Whey Protein (GNC 6 lb., usually buy when it’s BOGO) I use chocolate milk or add Hershey’s syrup to milk with whey for PWO.
Multivitamin (GNC 180 ct.)

The fish oil usually lasts 2-3 months and if I buy the whey at the right time, I can make that last a good 7-8 months with 3 tubs.

ZMA I take every night to help with sleep and since it’s cheap, I can buy several bottles at once.

I’m looking to add either BCAA’s or creatine. I know both are reasonably priced here, but I can’t afford to do both right now.

I train 6 days a week; 2 days of lifting; 2 days of endurance work and 2-4 days of MMA training.

So, if you had to choose between the two, would you take BCAA or creatine?

Looking over this I probably could’ve just asked the question, but felt some background was necessary.

Thanks,
Dan

I would go for the BCAAs no doubt. I don’t know why, but I just think creatine isn’t necessarily a staple supplement, it can be added at any time for some minor gains, but stuff like BCAAs, if used correctly are the fuel for more permanent gains. In other words, if you run out of creatine, good bye gains, if you run out of BCAAs, you at least keep what you got using them.

Bah, maybe someone can correct me on this, reestablish my faith in creatine? :stuck_out_tongue:

I would say if your dieting take the BCAAs, but if your calories and carbs are ample take the creatine!

btw you can get Spike and take half doses that lasts a long time and is economical.

BCAA’s. With that training schedule, you could probably benefit from the added recovery.

If your going to opt for a regular fish oil as opposed to a high concentrated one like Flameout I would get the HUGE tub at Walmart, sams club or costso, and save some $$ even walgreens often times has buy one get one free.

First off, stop shopping at GNC. They work on commission and are there to rip you off. Did you know they’ve got a quota for how many Mega Man’s vitamins they need to sell in an hour?

As for your question, I’d personally say go with creatine. You can buy a 1000g tub for ~$25 and that’ll last you for 200 days. Creatine is a great supplement and I’m personally not convinced about the need to supplement BCAAs

Unless you can afford to take 20-40 grams of BCAAs a day, you are wasting your money on BCAAs. In any event, BCAAs are the most overhyped supplement on the market.

Creatine is a proven performer. How proven? It’s so proven that people refer to things as “the next creatine.” There has not, incidentally, been a next creatine.

Stick with what works. Spend your money on the creatine. As an added bonus, a can will last you months.

I agree on the creatine and not just for the muscle and physique aspect but general health like cognitive function etc

creatine is way cheaper than BCAA. with the money you save, you can get the beta7. so in reality it should be creatine + beta7 vs. BCAA. otherwise save a bundle and go with creatine alone.

Thanks guys. I was thinking the same things with creatine and BCAA but wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing some key aspect of BCAA’s.

I’ll go with the creatine.
