Also a good doco on the subject “until the light takes us”. Fairly graphic

The adaptation to screen (lords of chaos) was… a good movie, as an adaptation it wasn’t great. They made it seem as if the founders of Mayhem were hard partying kids who created the band in effort to look as hardcore as possible.

Varg was a neo-nazi in the film, dead and euronymous were friendly all the way up until dead commited suicide (not the case in real life). There were many, many inconsistencies. I suppose the actual story isn’t as dramatic/interesting as the film made it out to be. There was even a bit of romance (because… why?)

The cinematography was also construed to look akin to a horror film at times. The film was supposed to be a biographical flick, not a horror film…

Nothing is more metal than this:

Seriously, any X Japan fans here?

Oof… That’s a killer album.

I’ve seen Until the light…

Check out the documentary about the 1 man BM projects. Xasthur. Leviathan. Stryborg (sp…Tasmanian dude) Should be easy to find on youtube. Scott and Jeff are legit disturbed dudes.

I think a lot of them were. Particularly the guys who founded the early BM scene and those who founded suicidal depressive black metal

Jeff and Scott pioneered that wave

I feel pretty disappointed they used Losfer Words for that T. Swizzle one

I can’t remember if it’s been discussed, but did y’all know Shinedown started as Southern alt-metal before going poppy? Their original guitarist (Jasin Todd) had a heavy hand in the songwriting and his background really came through in Us and Them and Leave a Whisper. Their live Simple Man cover chokes me up every time I hear it still.

Also, some gems from their early life:

Never heard of them but I like these guys.

They’re pretty popular in the US and even get significant play time on mainstream and pop radio

Riff mania…
