Howsit guys,
Some advice needed. After getting some tests, my Dr wants to put me in Hcg mono treatment 6500IU once a month for 3 months.
Basics of blood work done
Free Testosterone : below optimal threshold
Progesterone : below optimal
Magnesium and Vitamin D was low
TSH borderline
LH and Fsh normal
Cortisol levels fairly low
My question is will Hcg alone be enough to elicit a long term change with temporary treatment, and will I not run the risk of increased Estrogen without additional drugs?
Basically should I get a second opinion or does this seem like a sound treatment approach for an otherwise healthy 31 yo male?
Cheers.
TSH only testing tells me the kind of care your receiving is rather poor, TSH is the stimulating hormone secreted by the pituitary gland and stimulates the thyroid gland, so all it tells you is thyroid gland is being stimulated and tells you nothing about thyroid hormone production.
Borderline TSH tells me your thyroid is nearing redline and problems already exist and doctors usually will refuse treatment until you cross that redline, you should not be alright with normal, you should focus on optimal if you want an optimal life.
Low cortisol, borderline TSH doesn’t correlate well with an otherwise healthy young man. You definitely need some improvements as borderline TSH indicates low thyroid function, otherwise your pituitary wouldn’t be working so hard to get the thyroid to do its job properly.
Your insurance in the one pulling the strings on not getting thyroid treatment, their standards are low for getting covered. You should go get a new doctor or go private anyways because this doctor is clearly chasing numbers instead of chasing symptoms.
One thing you should do is check thyroid status by checking morning and afternoon oral body temperatures per thyroid sticky, you may be iodine deficient. Cortisol is a requirement for proper thyroid function.
Addison’s disease, which occurs when production of cortisol by your adrenal glands is too low. you have hypopituitarism, which occurs when production of cortisol by your adrenal glands is too low because the pituitary gland is not sending proper signals.
People with optimal hormones live a longer lives, normal people live average lives.
I would hold of on HCG or any trt.
Cortisol low, you may have adrenal insufficiency. Need to probably fix that first and see what happens with thyroid and testosterone numbers.
Test:
Acth
Am cortisol
TSH
T3 free
T4 free
Total testosterone
Free Testosterone
LH
FSH
CBC
CMP
Lipids
Prolactin
Estradiol using LC MS assay
Post exact labs with ranges.
Thanks for the insight guys, I appreciate the replies. The Dr I’m seeing is not an Endocrinologist, so I think that’s my next step. Will hold off the Hcg until I know what’s what-there’s no quick fix for good health.
Out of interest I’ll post what happens and keep the above suggestions in mind.
Thanks.
An endocrinologist is no better do to the practice of reference range endocrinology, some are smart enough to pay attention to the symptoms, but only few do.
