Thursday:

Couldn’t take it, so I put on a hoody and did some squats anyway. Was hot and itchy as balls but worth it.

Squat (high bar) from pins up to 275. lots around there. My starting strength is shit.

Some vertical and broad jumps sprinkled throughout.

Friday:

Felt sick, fighting nausea the whole time. I’ve been sleeping badly since i got this poison ivy, for obvious reasons.

OHP - a few singles, tried 135 anyway but couldn’t get it through the sticking point. 110 for 5 x 5.
Close grip bench - top set was 155 x 3, just missed the 4th, then 135 and some lockout holds
pushdowns - top set was 70

Saturday:

I didn’t have the mobility to Olympic squat nor the time to fix that so instead,

PL squat - singles up to 315. Had another 10 lb or so in me. The low bar position felt much more stable than last time I tried it, though still not perfect.

Barbell row - up to 185 but my low back was tiring before my upper back so I did some dumbbell rows instead (strapless)

No time for a whole lot cause they were closing at 3 today.


I’ve high bar squatted since the beginning and I have the shrunken hamstrings to show for it. As far as I know, the only athletes who oly squat are O-lifters. Nearly every strongman, thrower, and powerlifter (obviously) that I’ve ever heard of low bar squats. So why am I not?

I’m not an O-lifter. And I’m most definitely hamstring weak.

We’ll see how it affects me, especially my deadlift and athletic movements, but I think I’ll be using PL squats from now on.

Monday:

OHP - some singles, 115 x 4, 2, 95 x some.

Slow.

Close grip bench - bar x ~8, 95 x 5, 135 x 5, 155 x 5, 165 x 3.
pushdowns, top set was 80

meh.

Tuesday:

Deadlift - 290 for 4 short rest triples, missed the third rep on the 5th set.
Shrugs - 275 - 4 sets there

wednesday: bench press and triceps - weak today, not worth logging.

Bench press is starting to feel stable and natural. Getting fast too.

Pushdowns are at 90

Not consistently. I always come up with some BS excuse for why I can’t eat much. I know what I have to do, I just have to man up and do it.

I’ll be home in a few weeks where I can spread my food out throughout the day instead of on a meal plan. I can easily get well over maintenance like that which should get me out of this rut, progressing fast again and able to handle volume.

Schools really starting to bear down; I’ll just be happy with what I can get until finals are over. 2 more weeks…

PL squat - a few short rest singles at 295. Much slower than I expected.

Then I started to black out on the next one, so I did some light snatches and cleans and left.

Just 2 more weeks of this.

Thursday session 2:

then lots of higher rep High-bar squats, including a 20 rep set with 185 and minimal resting. And a shit-ton of good mornings. Most with 155, I couldn’t get more than 3 or so with 185 before it just turned into a shitty squat. Plus some sets near the end with 135.

No rhyme or reason, though I guess you could say it was super-setted. Short rests. I just did what I wanted until my legs were jello.
