Got some good volume today, intensity down. Lots of assisted chins, assisted dips. Felt really good. Hi rep shrugs for traps. Some hypers, good and slow, just bodyweight. Would have done more, but some guy got in front of the hyper thing and started twisting all over the place with a broomstick. After waiting for 10 min, I called it a day.
Would someone PLEASE explain what those broomstick things are supposed to do? I’ve never been able to figure it out.
yeah shoulder dislocates are great, I do them with bands as my flexibility isnt as good as the guy in the vid. My shoulders are fucked, so these definitely make’em feel better.
Lol at the broomstick guy in front of you that stuff happens to me all the time, I always wonder are they messing with me or just don’t realize.
Nice vid, Ogre. No, he wasn’t doing them like that, he was doing the twist at the waist, then bending side to side. Someone must be telling these people to do that, just too many to be coincidence. Most guys in my gym are way more sensible than that.
No, it’s the Monster Bench Press here in Coraopolis. It’s push - pull, you get choice of bench or dead. I’m doing dead, have done 275 in training. Also have a 225 bench for reps and a log raise. Should be good experience for a first meet. It’s Sunday Apr 3. Is yours the same weekend?
You’re making great progress. You have a great attitude, the way you’re sorting out your squats and entering a meet too. Well done. You deserve success.
MJ and Brett, thanks very much. Everyone here has been very helpful and supportive.
Will be in 220 lb class, my weight in gym clothes is around 212. Wouldn’t hurt to lose some softness around the middle, but I really feel I’m not big enough.
Did some low weight, hi rep deadlifts today. Five sets of 135 for 10 reps each. Worked for speed. Felt really light, a good omen. Finished up with miscellaneous grip work.
It’s more work than I had expected this close to the meet, but it appears that my body really responds to high volume.

EDIT: Colin, I sent a PM, did you get it?
My Meet is Saturday. Throw a link up to your meets location. If I’m not totally gassed from my meet I might try and come up to support the team! I got your PM Bro, Just really busy at work. We are going through a SAS70 right now…Hate paperwork…Grrrr
Sorry for the crappy old cell phone vid) In defense of the broom stick, I do plenty of twists with just the bar anad with the bar and weights on it. I do them primarily for the discus and throwing. I am very aware of other people waiting to uae equipment, though. Lift heavy at the meet, Cav.
It has been so fun to watch your progress these last few months. I have to say that I really admire how you’ve never let your ego get in the way and are willing to work with a bare bar to get your squat depth/form right. This attitude will most certainly pay dividends in the long run.
Regarding your most recent squat vid, I still think you need to work to keep your chest up and stay really tight in the upper half of your body. But depth is so much improved! The box does not lie.
Colin, I’d love to see you at the Erie meet, but weighins on Sat evening, sorry. Hope you can make it Sun. Benching is morning and deads in afternoon. With my modest lifts, will probably be in the 1st or 2nd flight.
don’t know that there’s a web site for the meet. It’s at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Just go north on I 376 (they changed the number last year), get off on Thorne Run exit, it’s right there. You’ll see the hotel before even getting off the interstate, can’t miss it.
One of the keys to being happy with your lifting is to not compare your self to everybody else. I’m betting that guy thinks he should be benching 275 because someone else is.
