About spit carrots all over my screen! LMAO!
Cav- I understand how hard it is to be unemployeed you’ve got to keep looking up and except the challenge, as hard as it is. Have a little faith bro, things happen for a reason.
Username, thanks, but I’ll pass on the Afghanistan option. Besides, the military may be desperate, but they’re not recruiting 55 yr olds.
Brett, I’m constantly intrigued by all the things you try to get me to do. I can hear the sniggering across the pond. Actually, have considered twice a day workouts, but that somehow doesn’t happen, busy emailing, checking jobs, chores, etc.
Apparently, Sheiko is supposed to be twice day anyway, cramming all into one workout is common but tough.
Dday, I would caution you about eating while web surfing, but I eat all day myself, so never mind. Yes, things happen for a reason - bosses are assholes. Sorry, but have had some real wackadoodles for boss, sometimes think about running them in Bad Boss contests. (There really are such contests, BTW.)
OK. Had almost an entire week of taking it easy. Only a couple of moments playing on the ellipticals. Slept soundly.
Now . . . my first day of Sheiko. (Does anyone know how to pronounce it?)
Bench
45 x 10
80 x 5
95 x 4 . x4
110 x 3 . x3
120 x 3 . x3 . x3 . x3 . x3
Just as I’m ready to do squats, a guy jumps onto the rack to do floor bench. He’s twice my size and 3 times my strength, so I wait.
Squat
65 x 5
85 x 5 . x5
95 x 5 . x5 . x5 . x5 . x5
Back to bench:
80 x 5
95 x 5
110 x 4 . x4 . x4 . x4
DB flies
20 x 10
25 x 10
30 x 10
35 x 10 . x10
was supposed to do some GMs but had enough. it was 2 hrs already
Initial reaction: you’re sure going to learn how to bench and squat with all those reps. The weights are just tough enough to work you but not enough to need a spotter. Felt pretty pumped afterwards, but really stressed, heart’s been fluttering a little. Took medication & force feeding myself the protein.
Side note: barber recommended I dye my hair if going to job interviews. So got some Just For Men. God, what we have to do to get employment.
KM, I just KNOW all those years of crazy video production have made you crack. You train your body into a charcoal briquette and let us know how it goes.
Seriously, last night trying to sleep, heart palpitations kept coming and going for about an hour. Yech. Definitely have to figure out how to deal with the stress or else change the program. On the bright side, no soreness this morning and body feels pumped, it’s nice.
Joe, it’s interesting. For one thing, my appetite is going through the roof. Yesterday had breakfast, then lunch, then hit Golden Corral, plowed through 4 plates of food and still had room for desert. Then came home and started shoving protein shakes down my throat.
SHEIKO * * * DAY TWO
Deadlift to knees (these are interesting, really keep back tense and tight abs)
145 x 3
175 x 3
205 x 3 . x3
225 x 3 . x3 . x3 . x3
Incline Bench
65 x 6
75 x 6
85 x 6
95 x 6
95 x 6
program doesn’t specify weight, was surprised by going bit higher than expected
Dips (sortof)
x5 . x5 . x5 . x5 . x5
these actually started feeling good . . . dips feel good???
Deadlift off pins at knee level
165 x 4
195 x 4
225 x 4 . x4
255 x 3 . x3 . x3 . x3
these are weird, they’re tough but you walk away feeling as if you hadn’t done anything
DB lunges
20 x 5
30 x 5
heart started fluttering so called it quits. was moving for 2 full hours
This is weird stuff. You need to set aside the time to do it all, but doesn’t really feel like you’re overtraining. The weights are just tough enough to give you a good workout, but light enough that you know you can make it. Every set is success. It’s a real psychological boost.
Had some heart arythmia last night, so on full meds.

+1 on this Cav. I was out of work for 9 months recently so I know what you’re going through. Just keep plugging away and something will certainly come up. Just approach it like your training, keep consistency in the equation.
George, I haven’t seen anything about conditioning on off days. Considering how I feel, just want to eat and sleep. Had some more intermittent heart palpitations last night trying to sleep, even with full meds. More exercise might be worse still.
LTTG, I read that 9 mo unemployment is average in this recession. A friend has led me to some openings in his area, seeing if they go anywhere. Will keep everyone posted.
Thanks, James, I’ll keep posting on how it goes. Yes, open to moving, was hoping not to go as far as California. Lived in LA for a while, did some work in the film industry but got really burned out. My sister lives near LA.
Kevin, if sheiko is nuts, then it’s perfect. Ain’t no one more desperate to get strong than me.

What is sheiko all about then–i couldn’t realy get much sense of it from the reference that i did find, waht is it–high volume /limited exercise, if so that is one thing i am expereimenting with in this 3 week ‘play’ time.
If anything i am enjoying the high volume approach but am as sore as a sore thing from sore town afterwards.
Goat, thanks. If you have the guts to post that creepy avatar, you have the courage to do anything.
Aha! Upscale’s weighing in! I should have done this Sheiko stuff long ago, it’s attracting the hot chicks! (Yes, Snapper, you’re a hot chick.)
Nurse, there seem to be some interpretations of it. Even Sheiko himself drew up a number of variations. I found a decent one recommended for non-advanced guys. Google “sheiko”, there’s lots of info. Your body will eventually strengthen and DOMS will minimize, so be patient. I’ve done this long enough that it’s hard to get sore.
OK. Discovered that increasing my eating even more will alleviate much of the stress. Had a great sleep last night. If anyone else wants to try this, be forewarned, you may have to do some serious forced feeding. I’m talking lying on the floor while a friend jumps up & down tamping all the food down your throat.
Third Sheiko workout . . .
Bench
80 x 5
95 x 5
110 x 4
120 x 3 . x 3 . boy, these are just flying up
125 x 2
135 x 2 . program said 125, but that just felt too wussy
120 x 3 . x 3
110 x 4
95 x 6
80 x 8
DB Flies
25 x 10
35 x 10 . x 10
40 x 10
35 x 10
Squats
65 x 5
85 x 4
105 x 3 . was supposed to be 95, but I really felt like more
105 x 3
115 x 3 . supposed to be 105, but the reps were just bouncing up
115 x 3 . x 3
95 x 3 . x 3
had a bit of palpitations, but fine now.
One guy was doing arm curls. He asked me when I’d be done with the power rack. Sigh.
Cav, i got realy confused about sheiko, i did google it and i think the first thing i read was a direct translation of his original work which was a direct translation with some words still in the cryllic–obviously didn’t translate too well.
My interpretaion of it is that of keeping to minimal exercises but doing loads of sets annd reps but where reps decresae as weight increases.
That is something i have been doing as 1 side of a ‘pryramid’ although often don’t get down the other side.
Some interpretations seem to have it as increasing weight with increasing reps, looks like this might be due to in the original he gives his numbers as reps/sets rtaher than the ‘standard’ way of sets/reps.
Whatever–it’s a shed load of workload which is exactly what i have been playing with so good effort if you can handle it.
