Hard Work

I experimented with squatting a broomstick. Really have to work shoulders & arms to allow bar to get lower. No problem getting the stick down the back, in fact, the squatting felt really turbocharged. Just have to see if I have the flexibility in shoulders to make it work. Anything you folks do for that?[/quote]

Broomstick stretches AKA Shoulder Separations. I do them pretty much every time I have a pressing session. Shoulder savers in my opinion and also give a world of flexibility.

cavalier,

getting deep enough certainly isn’t an issue for you, nice job on getting down for those squats, as a side note do you have really long legs? you seemed to just fold up on yourself at the bottom, you’re more of a man than me because I would have just dumped the bar on the supports and left the gym, you did a 2nd rep, nice job.

Upscale, thanks very much.

Nurse, I’ve learned the hard way the only way to work the bottom is to . . . work the bottom. You’re right that getting form right from the beginning pays off.

Dday, will check it out. Thanks.

Brian, thanks. As Upscale noticed, I am DETERMINED. I had way too many years of skinny to ever consider going back. Good observation, I do have long legs. It’s hard buying a car, not many have enough legspace. And it makes squatting miserable.

Feeling good, let’s do some heavy benching:
45 x 10
95 x 6
115 x 5
135 x 4
165 x 1 . I was THIS CLOSE to a PR, but spotter had to help a little
155 x 2 . Again, spotter had to help on the second
135 x 3
135 x 3
135 x 3
135 x 3 . oddly, these felt really good, didn’t want to stop

Cybex press . never tried this before, but everyone else does it
40 x 20
70 x 12
90 x 10
110 x 5 . GRR! took some oomph, but did it
110 x 5
110 x 5

Incline DB - anterior shoulders fried, probably shouldn’t have but wanted to work upper pecs
20 x 12
30 x 10
40 x 8

Upper body feeling good and pumped, bodyweight up to 215. yeah.

Swoleski NICE!

Great volume, Cav. PR next time. It gives you something to look forward to.
And great work.

Sound like the bench is a very happening thing. I bet with a rest and refuel we will see a new pb posted real soon.

Nice one.

I understand the long legs/looong arms problem–me to a tee, from my teens up until my mid twenties i could hardly buy jeans at all that would get anywhere near my feet (beanpole !!!)

Hells yea! Whoop that bench, good job.

Wow, you’ve made some serious progress in your squat. You’ve got some good coaches! Keep up the good work.

Hey Cav squats are really coming along…i haven’t been to your log in a bit…got to get on here daily
Nice work

nice volume and good benching

Cav what part of Pa are you in?

Ddot, I’ve been doing some broomstick stretches, they really loosen up the shoulders.

Matty, happiness is pulling on a large T-shirt and it stretches around the shoulders and chest.

Strick, thanks, can’t wait for the PR’s.

Nurse, if you think that’s bad, just wait until your thighs start growing from the squats, and you’ll have to get even bigger jeans.

Thanks, Dday!

Punnyguy, most of my coaches are right here. Thanks, everyone.

German, thanks for dropping by. Pretty intense log, it’s do or die with me. Locationwise, I’m in Pittsburgh, near the airport.

KM, you’re too kind.

Had a good night’s sleep, woke up feeling great. A good omen, since I planned on doing deadlifts. With Upscale urging me to do 300, what would happen?

deadlift
137 x 7 . they flew up, literally
185 x 5
225 x 4
265 x 3 . tough, but OK
300 x 1 . * * PR * * this was a grinder, thought it would never get up, think I did get it up, not sure if it would have passed
275 x 2 . wanted to do a triple, but wearing out
275 x 2

Whew! felt like someone took a baseball bat to my backside. My body hates me.

Did 6 sets of chins, called it a day.

Congrats on the PR!

We both had PR pulls yesterday. They sure do feel great, eh? Haven’t seen you post a DL vid.

Thanks, George!

Congrats on your PR, Snapper. Guess I’ll have to post a DL vid at some point. Yesterday would have been good, almost no one in gym on Friday. (Someone there once mentioned “If you’re married and don’t drink, where else are you on Friday night?”)

Ate a lot last night and got a HUGE amount of sleep, much less sore today.

Indeed. Congrats.

Thanks, Elaikases. By the way, how was the gaming convention? Or is that next week?

Glad you got my answer. That was two weeks ago. Ended up missing my work-out, but made it last week and this week. Making progress.

Nice deadlift PR!

Nice work on the deadlift PR.
