Hard Work

Check this out, Kent. Years back, I threw together a gamemaster’s shield for Vindicators but never got around to selling one. Here’s the one I used in my games:

KMC, thanks. What on earth is Spinae biffida occola? How did you get the fused vertabrae - surgery?

Brasil, the PBS stations will find something relatively cheap and show 10 gazzilion times. The big draws - Avengers, Monty Python, Prisoner - long ago got off TV and now only on DVD. I know a lot of American shows end up over there. Mission: Impossible is one of my favorites, I hear that was a worldwide craze in the 70’s. Heard of Blackadder but never saw it.

dday, thanks for stopping by. I visit your log often, so you’re not a stranger.

And here he is… Cavalier himself.

AWESOME!

Light bench day. I thought I would be too sore to do any pressing, but turned out not as bad as I feared.

45 x 12
75 x 15
95 x 12
95 x 12
95 x 12
95 x 12

Inverse Rows on the dip machine - grip the handles from underneath and row up:
x15 . x15 . x13 . x13 . x12

Superset assisted chins and dips on the nautilus machine.
-100 x 10 or 12

lost count of sets, just kept grinding them out. Really, really hope I can build my arms.

EDIT: oh yes, and need to work my rope swinging skills.

Nice volume

awesome pics!

Spinae Biffida Occulta (I cant spell)

is pretty common usually it means some of the lower vertebrae
dont harden or have tiny holes or fissures in them

some forms are bad- mine is mild

My neck is well like a rusty bucket-
from years of wrestling and judo and
some work related extension stuff.

i have what looks like 3 or 4 herniated discs in the neck
that have slowly degenerated and are partly fused.

Hey Cav that looks like a bugger of a work out. You must have been doin some serious sweatin. I do the dip/chin supersets and always have to gut it out mentally.

KMC, sounds pretty frightful. Fortunately, you’ve managed to get some good lifts.

Dude, thanks. Actually, was going for light weights, the chins & dips were all at -100#, frustrated that I have always had so much trouble with bodyweight chins & dips. A teensy bit of DOMS today, hope it’s a good sign.

Dude, I am sweating and I am gutting it out. I’m just so pissed at having such mediocre strength that I’m determined to gain or die trying. It’s been a lifelong problem - always thin, always weak. My god, there are beginners who are lifting more after 6 months of training than I can after 30 yrs.

Which is why I gritted my teeth through today’s workout:

Deadlifts
135 x 10
145 x 10
155 x 10
155 x 10
155 x 8
155 x 8

Now that’s conditioning.

Did a few bicep rows and CG pushups. This time put feet up on 3 in high platform, piece of cake.

How much do you weigh cav?

Massive volume…

is the intent putting size on?

If so are you eating?

Sleeping is my downfall…

You can’t think about what others can do, you gotta lift for you. All you can do is know every night when you look in the mirror, I did the best I could and be happy about it.

Truest words in this forum.

Great work. How do you like all of that volume? I tried GVT for a few weeks but it only made me tired and did nothing for my lifts. But we all respond differently to training and have different goals. I did like that it helped with my conditioning though.

james

Joe, I weight about 212. A few days ago, bumped up to 215 briefly for the first time in my life.

Null, I posted my diet over on Matty’s log. Essentially, I’m eating all day long. Loads of protein. Also getting plenty of sleep. Looking for work, but with unemployment benefits coming in I’m staying afloat, so stress is down. Yes, trying to build up, but don’t want to turn into a fat fuck.

dday, thanks. I keep reading and researching to find advice on how to lift. And I keep running into the same problem. Constant stories on doing such-and-such program, and you should do it because all these guys went from a 45# squat to 300# in a couple of months, or something. I do the program, I don’t get those results - what does it mean? I’m stupid? They’re genetically gifted? Someone’s lying? Bottom line: trying to figure out the program I should follow is just not easy.

James, I was told a couple of months ago I had way too little volume. I’ve been training for some 30 yrs now, most of which was much less volume. For a long while was doing HIT routines. Zilch results. Did 5x5 off and on in the past couple of years, had some slight results. You name it, I did it at some point. It’s not a matter of whether I like a routine, I’ll do whatever it takes and discomfort be damned. I see guys doing similiar volume and growing, does that make it automatically bad for me?

Dude, I’ll take “serious sweating” as a compliment.

Thats how it was meant for sure. I do day on day off and sometimes take two days off, I like to bust a$% and get it done and then relax for a day. Do cardio on off days (sometimes skip it) my cardio is slow and steady nothing high impact, I really like swimming for cardio. I was always on the edge of overtraining and now I think I am where I should be. Beleive me I know how frustrating it can be finding your grooove man. I think your on to some thing keep gutting it out, then relax cause it didn’t kill you.

Dude, I think I may have been undertraining, fussing to see what’s going on. Sounds like you’ve dialed it in. Something seems to be going right, I’ve put on about a couple of pounds in the past month. Took off yesterday, just rested and ate. Today was stronger than ever.

Did box squats, full range this time, wanted to see how much weight can use. Still not as much as before when I was cheating height, but felt good:

broom x 12
35 x 8
45 x 6
65 x 5
95 x 2
95 x 2
95 x 2
95 x 2

probably could have done more reps, but trying to concentrate on form. Faced away from mirror so not distracted by reflection. Felt pretty sturdy. Will take some vids when I’m not being lazy.

Question: when I walk out, then walk back and rack, the bar keeps ending up several inches to the right. Am I getting off balance somehow?

Leg X
6 x 12
9 x 10
12 x 9
15 x 6
15 x 6
15 x 6

damn, stronger

Seated Calf plate loaded
45 x 15
90 x 10
115 x 5
125 x 6
135 x 5
135 x 5

That’s 3, count them, 3 plates on the bar. Don’t know why, but my calves have always been weirdly strong. Too bad there’s no calf raise contests.

Ooops, forgot, need to hook feet under bed & do some GHR. Must remember to do some when have free minute.

Rest is way underestimated. I once heard about russian lifters being forced to sleep 12 hours and naps in the afternoon. I may not have liked the russians during the cold war but I certainly had alot of respect for them as they handed us our a*&^%^ in lifting every olympics.

x2…on the rest, cant be your best w/o it, slept till 12 today and happy I did…keep hittin it bro!

Huh. I’ll have to look. I got out of touch in the gaming community, missed Vindicators.

My RPG stuff survives on-line at Steve Marsh's Heroquest Home Page! but I am really not a part of the community anymore, well, except for an occasional con with the grognards.

Kent, I’m impressed. You really know your RPG’s. Want a few free copies, I have some laying around?

I’ll buy a copy. Then I can share it at http://ntrpgcon.com/

Do you have a methodical walkout? I have finally trained myself to do a deliberate three-step walkout (very important to minimize extraneous steps and movement when the weight gets heavy), but I’m not sure I’m perfectly centered.
