Its because your going about it the wrong way.
Step 1: Wait
Step 2: quietly find out which girls didnt get anything (Most girls are happy to talk about who got what from whom and who didnt)
Step 3: Give unique gift later to unloved girl (small box of cookies is a good start, cheaper too)
Step 4: apologise for being late
Step 5: get laid with girl that felt unloved and ugly. (maybe shes actually ugly, but you dont sound like you can be too choosey anyway).
Its a tad of a statistical thing, but it works. It all falls apart if you dont have a large social group of girls anyway.
