… that was the reason behind MagSafe’s development.

I have no hands-on experience with this ammo, but the company seems pretty confident in its feeding and cycling capability (but then, they would, wouldn’t they?).
MagSafe did not perform particularly well in this test.

I’ve fed many hundreds of rounds of ICC frangible ammo through my Walther P99 in close quarter steel target training and never experienced a misfeed.

Although the round turns to dust when impacting a steel plate, it appears to have good penetration. This video of live fire protocols from International Cartridge shows how well a .40 cal round passes through plywood, rolled steel, or windshield glass, yet still get good penetration on gelatin.

It also illustrates well how close you can get to a steel plate with frangible ammo and get no ricochet. Using copper jacketed ammo, I’ve been hit in the hand with a ricochet off a backstop 75 feet away.

The copper jacket, after it ripped open my knuckle, ricocheted off me and hit my buddy in the nuts. By the time it got to him, it lost almost all of its velocity. That was pretty funny.

What about holsters?

What’s comfitable, easy/quick to draw from, etc.

Maybe a leather one molded to a particular gun.

I’m partial to Mitch Rosen’s holsters. He has high quality products and his shop is close. All of his holsters are hand made and custom fit so that the holster is indented into the ejection port, front of the trigger guard, and firmly into the rear of the trigger guard. The precise fitting (boning) ensures that the weapon is held securely.

I also recommend some dressing on the inside of the holster (Leather Lightening) to help break a new holster in and speed up the draw. It won’t compromise the retention characteristics of the holster.

Wow great stuff, definaly going to go to them for my holster needs.

BTW, this thread has been very interesting and usefull. Most of my experience is with military weapons, so not too much on handguns. With few expections handguns aren’t of much use in a battle.

Yes, much in the same sense that, with few exceptions, seat belts aren’t much use in automobiles.

It is for those occasional “exceptions” that we pack a sidearm.

Normally, even in battle, you will never need it. But when you do need it, you really need it.

But… but… people like to collect guns! Yeah, maybe Iran just likes to collect nuclear power. I also love the idea that somebody would have to use a handgun to defend their home. Yeah, those shotguns, no good, you need a Desert Eagle .50 if someone wants to steal your TV.

But… But… But… what if I’m walking down the street and someone pulls a gun on me, I need to be able to pull out my gun and shoot him. Tighter gun control means LESS VIOLENT CRIME. All this paranoid bullshit about every criminal being able to get a hand-gun even if pistols are illegal and/or extremely hard to obtain is ridiculous.

Petty thugs, about whom you are worried, don’t have a lot of incentive to spend a shitload of money for an illegal handgun from some super secret crime ring. Also the majority of gun deaths are ACCIDENTAL. Handguns are easily concealable people killers - that’s it.

By making them easy to get, you’re simply opening the door to stupid motherfuckers who have no qualification or reason to use them other than to make themselves feel like a big man and end up shooting themselves or someone else. I’m not saying anyone on this forum fits that description; i’m saying that people should stop acting on fear and consider that handguns kill shitloads of people.

Tighter gun control means that more people will get guns who ACTUALLY NEED them (Cops? Qualified people with a legitimate reason for fearing bodily harm?)for protection purposes and not so they can fucking shoot paper on weekends and act like a badass. Oh right, it’ll also prevent their kids from blowing a hole through their skulls while Daddy isn’t home.
Yes people do like to collect guns, I have several Italian made shotguns worth several times there original value. Oh, and did you know that a Colt revolver has been sold for over a milion at christies auction house?
EVERY SINGLE CITY / COUNTRY that has EVER completely banned guns has had an increase in violent crime. Britian and Australia just to name two.
I started learning about guns at age eight, and I havent blown anybody’s head because I knew better from education.
If I was to stereo-type everyone like you just did, I guess I would call you a left wing, inbred imbecile with no capability towards rational thought / reasoning.

I’d like one of the Browning centerfire pistol’s…

Any of the following will do:

I would own this pistol…if it were a .45

Ahhh, I love the Hi-Power. Sleek, beautifully-balanced, single-action, and no grip safety (which is the 1911’s only flaw). If only it were available in a decent caliber.

Sorry 'bout that, 9mm and .40 fans.

No, but seriously, if one could obtain the Practical in .45 automatic, with a really crisp trigger and a standard spur hammer, I would be sorely tempted.

Kenesaw Update!!!

March 25th marked the 16th anniversary of Kennesaw, Georgia?s ordinance requiring heads of households {with certain exceptions} to KEEP at least one firearm in their homes. The City?s population grew from around 5,000 in 1980 to 13,000 by 1996 {latest available estimate}. Yet, there there have only been three murders: two with knives {1984 and 1987, and one with a firearm {1997}.

After the law went into effect in 1982, crime against persons plummeted 74 percent compared to 1981, and fell another 45 percent in 1983 compared to 1982. And it has stayed IMPRESSIVELY low.In addition to nearly non-existent homicide {murders have averaged a mere 0.19 per year}, the annual number of armed robberies, residential burglaries, commercial burglaries, and rapes have averaged respectively 1.69, 31.6, 19.7, and 2.00 through 1998."

Varqanir,

The reason I like 9mm better than .40 and .45 cal is because of price. =D If .40/.45 cal’s were as cheap as 9mm ammo, i’d get one of those instead.

But a 9mm will stop someone quickly, also, which is why I want one…

Not that my P22 wouldn’t stop someone, especially when I shoot them through their eyeball, heh… But sometimes a bigger gun is just more intimidating. =D

And it’s louder so maybe my neighbor’s would come running and see my excellent marksmanship. lol

Ha! True. A clean shot through the tear duct makes the .22 LR just as effective as a .44 Magnum!

One solution is to get a Hi-Power in .40 (they’re a bit hard to find, but they are out there} and rechamber it to 9mm. The sturdier slide and heftier recoil spring will then allow you to fire 9mm +P loads, which reasonably bridge the gap ballistically between 9mm and .45, and the ammo isn’t as pricey.

Cheers!

V

You can buy the .40 cal Hi-Power’s direct from Browning.com

I don’t think i’d risk rechambering it, though, I don’t know enough about guns. Yet.

The hi-power, one of John Browning’s last designs, though he never finished it before he died. I believe the only reason it was chambered in a small caliber is because the goal was a hi capacity double stack magazine. Just think if he lived long enough to finish it on his own and then use that exprience to build a better 45…

i like the Powerful Image 12/28 , she’s packing a different kind of heat.

Browning never actually designed this gun. He made The Grand Rendement, which was the predecessor to the Hi-Power. The Hi-Power was actually designed by Dieudonne Saive. (Not that i’m smart about guns or anything, I just happened to come across an article - http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BQY/is_2_50/ai_112128013 .)

Hey, let’s play “Name That Gun”. Start with the previous photo. If you get it right I’ll see what I can do to get you a date with the girl.
#1. Looks like a Desert Eagle.
#2. Big wheel gun. Model 29 44 Magnum?
pushharder wrote:
Name this one - a lil harder because of the photo angle.
Hmmm. Tough. My first guess was the Ruger Blackhawk, but the cylinder doesn’t have any indentations, and the front sight is wrong. Ditto for the S&W 500.

Okay, I’m guessing the .454 Casull.

That one’s easy. Desert Eagle. Can’t tell if it’s a .357 or a .44. Guessing a .357 just 'cuz it would be easier for a chick to handle.

Hey pushharder: you remember that old song “Girls with Guns” by Tommy Shaw from Styx?
