Half of Men Wish They Were Dead

It doesnt acknowledge that many women have served in times of war with honor and distinction Voluntarily, while attempting to purchase rights which have been codified in the constitution.

Oh I absolutely love Starship Troopers.

I can’t believe you invoked everybodys favorite movie when they are between the ages of 15-26.

The co-ed shower scene gives me hope for humanity

Did anyone read the Heinlein where women were scarce on the moon, so they each had 6 or 7 husbands?

That one chick, the female lead or whatever, was sooo freakin hot.

I had a massive crush on a girl at school that looked just like her.

I agree with that. I was more so questioning why in these discussions the actual draft isn’t questioned.

TBH, I haven’t given it a ton of thought. Pros and cons to having a draft system.

Do any of you who think you should have to do military service think there could be some sort of non-military service that women could do to earn their vote?

Have I missed something?

As far as I know, there Is no draft. And a Presidential Executive Order couldn’t start one, right?

I don’t think you know what that means.

I think the goal post needs to be the same from one gender to the other.

I’m open to hearing alternatives, but equality means EQUALITY, not “mostly equal”. If the alternative is available for women, it must also be available for men.

I think it worked during wars of attrition, but warfare seems to have changed quite a bit in the last few decades.

There is still the selective service registry for males 18-25.

The problem with this is that when we had drafts, the nature of warfare was different. The military was not the huge bureaucratic enterprise it is now. There are more jobs in general and more jobs that women can do. Thus, any future draft could, and should, include women.

It doesn’t seem like a simple process.

It’s not equal among men. Not all men will pass the medical exams to join the military. Not all will be capable of being combat troops. Then you have the deferments.

It also begs the question- and this is based on historical fact- Who would you prefer to serve with- a woman there voluntarily (not subject to draft) or a reluctant man (drafted).

Historical fact being that women volunteered in times of war by the thousands to do their part, while many men were known to do almost anything to dodge.

I pick option 3.

And a man registers for the Selective Service when he signs up for a voter registration card…

OK, maybe, maybe I can see where dude is coming from. It’s less about Fascism and more about Bureaucracy.
