Hi I have been on TRT for about a year. My hair has been getting very thin and receding. I went to the urologist and he was very matter of fact that it is a side affect of TRT. He said he would give me a script for propecia but insurance wont cover it. I asked about Avadart because I read some people have had good results with it and it could regrow some of the recently lost hair and insurance pays for it. He told me he has no problem with that but it has not been tested for hair loss but agrees it should stop the hair loss but will not regrow any lost hair. So I have been on the Avadart for 2 months and using Rogain as well. The hair seems to be coming back slowly but I am getting a lot of shedding.
I have now started seeing an endocrinologist who feels I was on to high a dose of T .33 ML 2X weekly. That is the reason for the hair loss. My free T was way up. I have cut back to .2 ML 2X weekly but have not felt great, libido has dropped off and mood has changed.
I was wondering if the Avadart is causing the changes or is it the lower dose? I did start to feel a little off after starting the avadart before lowering the dose. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

This type of hair loss is genetic. So the TRT is simply speeding up what was going to happen anyways. Stated another way, the TRT is simply taking you to where you would have been but was delayed by low T.
Propecia is dangerous. Yes it does reduce T–>DHT that fuels male pattern baldness genetics that you inherited. It is a steroid drug that gets transported to nuclei of every cell in your body where gene expression gets altered. Some guys have permanent changes, epigenetic changes, that permanently alters/destroys hormone function and sexuality. If if happens, stopping the drug does not help. Other drugs in this class have same risks. DHT is mission critical for libido, sexual function, virility and maintenance of the sex organs. You really do not want to have low DHT levels? Note that there are no Rx drugs to replace DHT and DHT is no longer available via compounding pharmacies. So there is no escape route if thing go bad.
Note that shedding hair in areas of the scalp that are not part of male pattern baldness can also be a symptom of clinical hypothyroidism. There is a thyroid basics sticky that exists because thyroid issues are very common in the guys who come here.
Have DHT lab work done.
Do not report T doses in ml’s. Always report in mg’s, figure that out. There are different levels of mg/ml.
Unexplained hair loss, low hormone levels, neuromuscular problems arthritis and many other things could also be symptoms of Lyme desease. This is becoming an epidemic in our countries and I really think more people need to look at this further. Numbness and tingling itching, shooting pains. The feeling of something crawling under ur skin are also symptoms. It effect our immune system in so many ways. So many people are undiagnosed by doctors. Just saying

I had Lyme disease about 6 years; itâ??s a sneaky little bastard! For me it was diagnosed early. What got me to the doctor was a rash that was expanding on my chest and back along with complete lethargy. Always an active guy, I had to pull myself off the couch to do simple tasks.
When speaking to my doctor he asked if I ran a fever recently. About 2 weeks earlier I was fine until had a high fever. According to the doctor, count back about 3 days and thatâ??s when you got bit.
FYI, I never saw the so-called tell-tale sign of a bull’s-eye mark. There is a chance that I did have it and it quickly spread into a full blown rash. I will say I have always been health yet never felt that bad in my life.GET IT CHECKED WITH YOUR OTHER BLOODWORK!
Thanks guys KSMAN you scared the hell out of me with that info (Thank You). so I started looking into it. I am stopping the avardart I am still trying to dial in my proper does of the T to get me levels under control. I think the shedding is from the Adavart or the rogaine both say that is a side affect. I am now looking for a shampoo that helps to block the DHT in the scalp. When I first started TRT the Dr. put me on 200mg weekly. My total T was around 1900 I have been cutting back little by little to try and get my levels to a good range I’m now on 30mg twice a week if I am doing the math correct (200mg per ml I’m doing .15ml 2 times a week)
I’m sorry if I’m not that educated on all of this I just have a hard time grasping all the info and the doctors are no help.
