How do you define “excellent results” when it comes to gut health?

Lol, I figured something like that.
Good shape, size, color, minimal/no bloating or gas, regular, no constipation and diarrhea etc. And on the other end, minimal/no belching, no heartburn, not getting “too full” too early or too late, no upset stomach, etc.
But it all seems so… negative? Health is more than just “absence of disease”.
How would you distinguish between “great digestive health” versus “average/normal digestive health”?
Plus, to be perfectly honest, I don’t really know what good poop is supposed to look like.

How much Mg citrate are they using? I just picked up some and I’m using about 400mg a day (300mg pills + whatevers in multi/other supps). I’m hoping this will help regularity a bit plus I’ve had some twitches going on that I read this will help. I’m one of those people that twitches in their sleep.
I have to say, I’m not sure if it’s related to whatever I am taking for digestion or what but I’ve been having a lot of insomnia lately (about a week). Falling asleep no problem but waking up at like 2-3am and having crappy interrupted sleep after that. Today is probably the worst- I’m dead tired right now. The only supplement I’m taking that isn’t something semi-normal is potassium iodide. Normally I sleep like a rock so I don’t know what’s up. Not even sure how it would be related.[/quote]
For about a week recently I had the same experience - I would wake up almost exactly four hours after going to sleep, completely alert - and if I did fall asleep afterwards my sleep would be crappy and disturbed. Some times this was accompanied by serious nightmares right before waking up. I did some research and decided that this sounded like night time hypoglycemia. I increased my total daily calories slightly, and have started getting in a small meal - usually nuts and protein powder about an hour before bed and I haven’t had any similar experiences since.

That’s interesting. Come to think of it- I did in fact have a “nightmare” that startled me out of my sleep a few days ago. But I think it happened after I had finally managed to get back to sleep (so like 4 or 5 hours after the initial wakeup).
I had just 1/4lb of hamburger and a little avocado before going to bed last night tho. I’ll get some more food in and see how that goes. I wouldnt be surprised if it was a hunger issue in the middle of the night- perhaps I must satiate the beast!
man don’t you guys always have something to eat before bed? Pretty much the last thing I do every night is have something to eat.

I was playing with 16/8 IF. I normally don’t eat breakfast until a few hours after I wake up - just not hungry, but to get a full 16 and still have a meal before working out I had to stop my night time feeds at like 7 pm. This left me going 3-4 hours without a meal before getting to sleep. Now I’m only going about 12 hours fasted over night/morning and no sleep disturbances.
I typically get something smaller in, like some protein and pb or something like that. I also eat within about 30 min of getting out of bed. I take some supps, do my injections if needed, and then start cooking.
fuck me righteous I am getting through these HCL pills fast! I’m up to 8 per meal and still no burny feeling…
How strong are the pills? 650?

na, 325, so I’m expecting to have to go up a few still.
Having said that, I got a very slight burning from taking 7 with my dinner tonight. Not sure if it’s the burning I’m after or if swallowing so many pills just meant one stuck in my gullet and burned it a little. Heh.
I’ll try 7 again with my pre-bed meal and if I get the same slight burning I’ll scale it back to 6 for a couple of days.
Does anyone know how long you are supposed to go on using the dose that was just less than what caused the burning? So if that’s 6 for me, how long should I stay at 6?

I think you are supposed to stay at that dose until you start to feel the burning and then drop a pill again. Repeating until off.
For reference, I was using 650mg and got up to 6 pills where it tingled my stomach so I was a good bit higher. Might be more efficient to get some 650s when you start running out…
I just purchased Ultimate Flora Daily Care 15 billion as I was running out of my PB8 (which was not bought refrigerated) and KSman actually recommended it in my TRT thread. I am working on procuring some kefir grains which will make it’s way into my diet pretty routinely to help get added probiotics. I still need to work on a FOS source.
I’ve noticed I am more consistent but still suffering quite a bit of gas although not quite as much bloating. I think my change over to a better Vit C and Mg are also culprits here as quality of stool is suspect. I’ll change things slowly to see how it works out but my guts do feel better than they did a few months ago.

When I was trying to figure this out about 6 months ago, I think the advice was pretty much “until you don’t need it anymore”. Supposedly the dosage you need goes down after you’re on it for awhile (i.e., it starts burning with less pills), and eventually you just don’t need it. But I never went through with it that far so I can’t tell from experience. I think I was up to 4 or 5 650mg capsules per meal.
I ended up getting tested for h. pylori; I tested positive, and went on strong antibiotics for 7-10 days. I then had an upper GI endoscopy, and that showed that the h. pylori was gone. I only tried HCL once after that, and it burned pretty badly. I don’t know if that completely “fixed” any stomach acidity issues or if it was a fluke, but I haven’t touched the stuff since.
Maybe useful, maybe not: The scope and biopsy showed I have eosinophilic esophagitis, which basically means my esophagus is having an allergic reaction to something. I guess this gets mistakenly diagnosed as reflux a lot. However, I haven’t pursued this further with the GI doc yet, instead I’ve been focusing on other issues.

Inulin powder?
so it’s looking like I’ll end up taking like 14 of these pills before I get the burny I’m after!
Oh well, they’re not expensive supps, it’s just kind of a pain in the arse having to swallow so many pills with each meal
I tried the HCL pills to see if I had issues, and I was up to around 6-7 pills per meal and still not feeling anything. I gave up hah.
I also felt nothing from HCL pills.
Let me state what I term “Excellent Results”. I go to the bathroom twice a day. I experience no gas all day or bloat. I try to eat a varied menu as best I can. My supplements are minimal. I switch between a multi-vitamin, and Biotest Super Food. I also use Metabolic Drive-Low Carb, after workouts and 2 hours before bed. I try to keep things simple and not go overboard. Years ago I used everything.
Now I find I feel better with less, and just try to keep it as basic as possible. For me it works. Maybe someone else may need more or less.
These days (hopeful wiser) if I’m training, and gaining and happy with myself, that’s all I care about.
Good luck to all of you.
How did I ever overlook this thread.
I feel like I am in the same position. I am willing to bet my gut health is in serious turmoil right now and has been for a while. I am perpetually bloated despite my dairy intake being minimal. I suspect a food allergy I am unaware of. My bms are horrible and far from ideal. I am like a hot air balloon releasing a toxic gas all day long. Its horrible and it really ruins my physique because I am not fat at all but my bloat can sometimes give the illusion of a gut. If I fast for like two days straight there is an obvious improvement. It is literally a shitty problem to have.
