Gun Love Thread

I have the GSR and the revelation, both are .45 and both very accurate, the revelation has a grip safety that does not work. I need to get it sent back for repairs. One thing I noticed with both are the mainspring housing is sharp near the lanyard loop. Scratched me and messed up a shirt. Might ruin a coat if carried under a suit coat.

For me it just ruined a work shirt. It can be filed down I just had not done it. They make a solid handgun that is accurate. I would get the new configuration that has the slide that is round on the top like the Colt, instead of the flat top. It makes finding holsters easier. Maybe you are having better luck finding .22 but I have not laid hands on any in some time.

Is this a good deal or is the quality lacking and you get what you pay for?

Do I have that right? You get a 22 LR with your purchase? Not for nothing but what the hell would you do with it? Damn 22’s have such little powder, who want to lose it in the action? I have a 22 semi rifle and it sucks; good for killing old chickens and still jams.

Just my thought, unless you are a kid out plinkin cans, why bother.

Giving serious consideration to a Colt 6920. Found them under $1k…

REALLY?? link?

I’d scoop one up. Colt’s run like a scalded dog. Excellent quality. They are on a short list of trust my life to AR platforms.

I saw them for $967 at Cheaper Than Dirt.

Thanks DD, I’ll check it out.

Cant say that im a huge fan of the .380 but, some people like it i guess.
I really like .380’s. They are actually a lot of fun to shoot and I am a ā€˜big caliber’ kind of guy. The .380’s are actually my wife’s guns, but I love to shoot them and I don’t give a shit if the handle is pink. So she likes pink.

People criticize them as a defense round, but I beg to differ. I damn sure wouldn’t want to be hit with one.
My issue with .380 it tends to be harder to find than 9mm and a bit more expensive. That being one of my coworkers was showing me his Glock 42, and its definitely going to be one of my next gun purchases.

Shot a couple of my pistols at an indoor range today. First time I ever stepped foot in an indoor range. Has a 100 yd underground culvert (along with two 50 yarders) along with 50 ft pistol stations. All with mechanical target fetchers. 24 hour access.

Had a blast. I’m going to join. Only $130 a year dues.
I have some room so I can shoot out back. It sucks when you have to pay to shoot, drive to the range an blow off a couple hundred rounds that just seem to be going up in price. It’s getting to be a rich mans sport. :frowning:

I’m looking to spend about $500 or so for a decent handgun (doesn’t have to be new). I’m looking at something that is maybe a bit bigger than what I would use for CC so it will be mostly a home defense or open carry out while hiking/end of the world scenarios. I was advised to take a look at a .45 or something similar and I’m not necessarily opposed to a revolver. In terms of upgrades, I’ll probably just put a laser sight on it for low light/easy targeting.

I have a kid in the house so I’ll be looking to lock it up but also may be worth it to have a safety or some other form of protection on it. I currently have a 12 gauge Remington and I think the lady is going to look into a 9mm or slightly larger for concealment/her tiny hands.

Any advice on companies to look into? I know it’s not a lot for a gun but the sight can be added later and I’m looking for reliability- doesn’t need to be pretty.

My recommendations are always the same, one of the polymer wonders: Glock 19 or 17, Smith and Wesson M&P full size or compact, or Springfield XDM full size or compact.

M&Ps are generally the cheapest and you’ll be out the door under $500 with tax.

You really can’t go wrong with those.

Bud’s Gun Shop has had police trade-in M&P’s for just under $400, IIRC. While a little out of the original price range, I absolutely love my Walther P99 AS (9mm). It is the most ergonomic gun I’ve tried.

I felt it was a decent deal and took advantage late last week. The only complaints that you hear about the sig 1911’s is ftf/fte and failure of the slide to lock back after last round is fired. Apparently the oem sig magazines aren’t so great. The cure seems to be better mags such as Wilson Combat and Chip McCormick. I ordered half a dozen 8-round Wilson’s with the heavy duty springs. Ended up getting the Fastback Carry .45 along with the full size .22. The fastback carry is a square slide so stock holsters are tougher to find, but Garrett Industries has blue guns for all of the sigs and folks on the web are talking them up a bunch. Will probably order one of their iwb models this week.

.22’s are great fun and still cheaper to shoot than the larger calibers, which means I can shoot more often. Never a bad thing. The basics - safety, sight picture, safety, trigger discipline, trigger control, and safety are all the same regardless of caliber. And I would wager that the lowly .22 has taken more game in the us than all other calibers combined.

In the circles I run, the Croatian XD’s don’t fare well in classes. Plus they have ā€œsafetiesā€ which are no good for a fighting gun. Range toy maybe but I’d never trust my life to them. Glocks and M&P’s are GTG.

I’m with you and don’t disagree.

I know 3 guys who run XDs, for carry, competition, and in courses. Definitely in the minority though.

I’ve told a couple people just to get the M&P and put 1000 rounds through it before going through a long process comparing and contrasting guns. They ended up with a Sig and a HK, thinking the price was indicative of functionality. Sometimes its nice to have a budget, and this is one of those cases.

Yeah the M&P is a superb weapon. It’s everything the Glock is and more. Oh, the S&W Shield is also an excellent piece albeit a small one. I don’t know if I’d like only having 7 rounds. But I believe it’s intended to be a BUG anyways.

Sig sp2022 for under $500 not a bad option either. Heard nothing but good things about it. Doesn’t come in in .45 though.

Any Air gunners here? I have a hyooge gun boner for a Benjamin Rogue .357.

This thing takes down hogs man!

I have a crossman 10 pump bb gun from when I was a kid, that thing takes down beer cans man!

Seriously, I have seen those babies and they are sweeeet but as with most guys, its hard to part with $1,300.00. Muzzle velocity at 800 f/s right or is that with a special lightweight bullet? How’s the price of the ammo anyway or do they got you there too?
