fixed, firing assembly had some crud in it.
LOL! All the gunsmiths I know tell me that 90% of their work is cleaning guns.

3 shots at 200 yards. By far my best group of the day, and my life, lol. Last group, was just blasting away, not thinking about it.

The internet meme of Mossberg rifles being “minute of barn” are pretty much wrong, at least with the MVP series. My rig:

Mossberg MVP in 5.56
Leupold Mark AR 6-18
69 Nosler Boattail hollow points
23.3 grains of H335
in Lake city Brass (These shots were once fired brass, full resize, trimmed to 1.750)

Love this gun, and had a Freedom Boner all weekend from this group on Saturday morning. First time I’ve been behind the trigger in weeks, due to work.

That is an awesome group. Very impressed.

That’d be a great group at 100 even but at 200…awesome.
Thanks man. I had a couple more under MOA, but I’d say my average was MOA+ so over 2 inches at 200.

I’m pretty much ecstatic over this.

Frustration rounds. I’ve also fallen out of love with the fiber optic sights. I’m really starting to hate them.
Curious what is turning you off to fiber optic sights. Are they breaking? I still have and like them on a few of my glocks but the rest I have the Ameriglo Cap sights which are under $80 and have worked well. Good shooting though I finally have weekends off so im on the look for some shooting competitions as well.

It’s not just the fiber optic sight but the dimensions on my main competition gun. The rear notch width is .120 and the front blade is like .105. In the sun I don’t see the light bars on either side and just a blinding red dot.

Contrast it with my Ameriglo sights on the 19 I was shooting in that video, and it was .180 rear notch and .140 front post giving me .02" light bars on both sides. It’s got the painted dot which I can find fast on the draw but then I’m able to transition right to the top edge when I’m on target yielding a fast quality sight picture that I wouldn’t call the least bit inaccurate, even with the wide front blade. I’m really in love with that setup.

Those dimensions are probably the same as the CAPs and the square front I think was a deliberate choice on the CAPs to align lines versus dots and help not distract from the top edge. What I was thinking of doing was just a blacked out rear sights on my competition gun with the CAP front or just get a black front and paint it.

Go shoot a match. You will have a blast and if you get bit you will never be the same. I’d run at like 3/4 speed at first just to get the feel of things, make sure you have your finger off the trigger when reloading and moving, and an awareness of muscle direction and you will be safe.

If you’re right handed and moving left to right while reloading, be careful because you will probably break the 180. Ask somebody at your first match to tell you what I mean.

Finally got out and shot a match with some buds from work. Really fun and not as pricey as I thought it would be. $35 and 120 rounds fired. Shot 8 stages won’t be sure how I did until they posts results online but wasn’t too shabby for first time. Will do it again for sure. Used my G19 with ameriglo cap sights and really happy with how that worked.

Edit: results- got 12th out of 65 overall, 3rd out of 36 in the unclassified class, and 6th out of 43 in stock service pistol class.

Edit : 4th overall in accuracy

Nice work. Check out USPSA as well. Check this out at 6 min:

That looked pretty sweet. I think I may be hooked on this. Something to compare yourself against others and see where you stand and push to get better.

Taran Butler is the Hugh Hefner of the shooting sports

My dad bought this reproduction medic’s helmet and he wanted me to put a bullet hole in it, on the spot where he put the small pencil mark. So I did this, with my m14 from 100 yards, which was my best shooting of the day. After I shot it he wanted me to bury it in the yard and leave it for a couple of years.

Here is said M14, recently dressed up with a sling from Viking Tactical, and an Atlas Bipod.

May I ask what stock you have on it? I have an m14 ask well and would like to do something similar. It is technically a Norinco M305 (m14 copy) with a strong forged receiver, I’ve got to do some work to it though as I believe it has an over-indexed barrel.

It’s a magpul Archangel. It’s a nice stock for the price, but I’m thinking about upgrading to a Sage, or even a JAE if I come across one for a good price. One thing you need to be aware of with the Archangel is that in California it is considered to be a pistol grip which is Verboten. I don’t know how Canada’s laws are, but you might want to check that out.

One thing about this stock that I haven’t tested yet is the plastic picatinny rail under the fore-end that I mounted the bi-pod on. I haven’t fired it with the bi-pod, and I’m curious to see if the plastic rail gives.

http://www.guns.com/2015/10/22/bill-introduced-to-remove-suppressors-from-nfa-regulation/

A House Republican is proposing legislation that would remove suppressors and silencers from National Firearms Act regs and treat them as regular firearms.

Since 1934, the federal government has treated devices designed to muffle or suppress the report of firearms as Title II devices that required registration under the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record and mandated transfers that included a $200 tax stamp. Now, a bill sponsored by U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon, R-Ariz., aims to change that.

Under the terms of the Hearing Protection Act, introduced Thursday with 10 co-sponsors, gone would be the NFA requirements for the devices. Instead, federal law would treat them as firearms which would allow suppressors to transfer through any regular federal firearms license holders to anyone not prohibited from possessing them after the buyer passes an FBI instant background check.

Rather than the lengthy Form 4 process, which can take months, buyers would only have to complete the standard 4473 Form before taking possession.

While the bill is short in text, an important provision would allow for federal preemption of suppressor regulation over state laws, which would have the effect of keeping suppressors legal in states whose laws specifically mention that only those registered under the NFA are allowed.

Finally, the NFA tax paid on suppressor transfers after Oct. 22 would be refunded.

In the past several years, legal suppressor production has exploded. In 2014 the NFRTR listed 571,150 registered silencers while information released earlier this year showed 792,282â?? a growth of some 39 percent. The numbers of NFA-compliant suppressors currently listed nearly eclipse the total number of select-fire weapons, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns, combined.

The Hearing Protection Act has the early support of the American Suppressor Association and National Rifle Association, who have helped craft the legislation.

â??Since day one, the goal of our association has been to remove suppressors from the NFA,â?? ASA President Knox Williams told Guns.com. â??The Hearing Protection Act is the culmination of our efforts to enact pro-suppressor reform on both the state and federal levels.

Williams conceded the push to get the measure through Congress may be uphill, but is worth the fight.

â??While we donâ??t expect the HPA to pass overnight, we are confident that our continued educational and outreach initiatives will ultimately lead to the passage of this critical legislation,â?? he said. â??Its enactment will result in safer and more enjoyable shooting and hunting experiences for generations of sportsmen and women to come.â??

Michael Williams, General Counsel of the ASA told Guns.com the road to this weekâ??s debut has been a long one.

â??We spent months working with attorneys from the NRA and Rep. Salmonâ??s office to make sure our language achieved these goals, and the result is a concise, common-sense bill that weâ??re all very proud to support,â?? he said.
