Now THAT’S what I’m talking about!!
Boss, is that with a regular Oly bar or with a thick bar? Try that same movement with a 2" thick bar… it’ll really work your grip!!

I have a question relating to wrist rollers- what’s a good thickness for a roller? I have seen broomstick rollers, but seemed a bit too small. I have been looking at PVC pipe for the roller. So that’s why I am asking.
If you’re interesting in building real wrist strength by using a wrist roller, I suggest you get the NYB Power Wrist Roller. I got one and haven’t regretted it yet - it’s a supported wrist roller which means you can pile on the weight and go as heavy as you want. I’ve got 200 pounds on mine so far. [/quote]
yeah I got something like that too, i think it’s called a hose roller. But i’ve only loaded 45 pounds on it and move the resistance up a 6 story training tower. I am strapped for cash so I am looking at Home Depot as my training supplier.
thanks though
Wrist rollers are great… short of money,is no problem. get an old 2 or 2 1/2 length of pipe, approx 15 inch long drill a hole to run the rope through. you can put blocks, bricks, cans/buckets filled with rocks … ONE Thing, when you wrist roll, roll it both ways … NOT ONLY up and down Slowly… but change the posistion of the handle. for example … as you roll, look at the roller, the rope is either close to your body as you roll,or the length of pipe is … after doing one set with the rope close to your body, flip the roller over so that now the roller is close to your body and try that… that really works it both ways, vmuch better, much stronger, lots more burn…
Can you describe this homemade wrist roller in better detail? I’m interested in making one for myself.
Sybersnot,
I too have COC T, #1, #2 & #3. So far I’ve managed to just touch the #2 (Right hand). I’ve put COC on hold until my right elbow recovers from tendinitis (Tennis elbow?). I also use a home meade wrist roller. Kyle, it’s just a piece of plastic pipe ~ 2.5 inch diameter with a piece af nylon rope fastened to it using a jubilee clip (I think you call them hose clamps)in the centre. I slip this over an exercise bar held at shoulder height on the squat racks. I attach the end of the rope to a home made loading pin with a carabiner. Supporting the roller on the racks eliminates the shoulders and helps target the forearm / grip.
In addition I sometimes borrow my friends Heavy Hammer II.
I’ve tried home made block weight, made from 1 litre paint tins filled with lead. These were interesting and a good size, but soon found I had to add extra weight. I’m still thinking about how to progress with these, but the tendinitis has put these on hold for now.
One thing I tend to avoid is using straps, I find the only time I need to use them is on DB Rows (I use a home made bar: a DB bar with an extension rather like a kettlebell, this is to avoid larger diameter discs hitting me in the shoulder) the straps go on at about the 75kg DB level.

I used a York powerlifting bar.
Here are a couple of articles by CT and CW that discuss grip training:

grip has been my weak point since i started training …i have very small hands…they are thick but short…my deadlifts have always suffered from this.
i do either plate pinches or bar holds on DL day…they have helped my hand strength and my deads have been going up consistently…
I included towel chins into my routine a few weeks ago and boy do they give your hands a good thrashing! I’d add them to the list.
