Nice squats man, id agree with you that you are favoring your left side. Are those rehband sleeves? How do you like them?
Yup, I love them. Wouldn’t want to squat without 'em. Ordered from Jackal’s Gym.
Those are the newer model, yes?
You are correct, sir. Don’t be a ham-fist pulling them on, btw. I tore the outer fabric a little being too aggressive.

Thanks Astar!

@pbclax yeah something like that haha

tues 10/18

warm up: PVC/LAX roll, shrug, clean, mil press, muscle snatch, bench

bench
135x20, 185x12, 225x5, 255x3, 275x2, (1 board) 295x1, 235x3x5
inverted row
superset

incline bench - medium grip, same as flat bench
135,155x10, 175x7, 195x5, 205x4, 225x1, (wide grip) 135x20+(medium grip)7
rope pulldown
superset

cable flye/chain pushup
4x10+

plate raise/rear delt flye
3x10+

Benching went fairly well. Got an extra rep at 275 and it wasn’t particularly hard, that I can remember. 295 was a little more of a grinder but it went up. Inclines felt pretty good and the high rep set at the end felt great! Tweaked something around my right AC joint on the negative portion of the first plate raise set. From then on, letting the plate down with elbows flexed (like a curl) prevented any further irritation but it still doesn’t feel great.

And here are two more hip stretching videos. I break these out when something is not quite right with my hips.

form on your second 545 was a lot better, and it looked quite a bit easier. i really wouldn’t worry about any favoring. it may not be a muscle size/strength issue, i know one of my legs is slightly shorter than the other so it may look like i’m favoring something but it’s just my stance since my leg length is not symmetrical. and damn you got some hip mobility! lol

Yeah, I guess I’ll keep an eye on it but it’s not like I’m gonna stop squatting heavy just to fix what might be a non-issue.

10/20

warm up: lower usual

sumo dl - a real deadlift bar. Holy crap.
225,315x3, 405x3, 455x1, (belt) 495,545,585,605x1 (I can’t believe this actually happened)

DB walking lunge
65s,85s,100s,125s, all one trip down

leg extension/leg curl
3x10+

stretch

So learned a lot today. 545 flew up and I knew 585 was possible. On 585, I started to fall forward just as the bar cleared the knees but my calves sacrificed themselves to save the day. Basically both immediately contracted with unholy force and I feel lucky they didn’t tear. On 605 you see the bar dip at roughly the same place. Not a good lift but really I’m most of the way there. Also my shorts rode up and my over-hand threatened to open up as it was stuck to my thigh. So, things to fix: 1.) Stability at knee level. 2) Pants or baby powder or body butter or something to keep thigh friction down.

Also, I now love the deadlift bar haha.

605x1 no good:

Nice pull dude! How the hell did you get 60lbs outta a DL bar, teach me your ways so I can utilize them at my meet!!!

Yeah I have no idea what’s happening anymore. I think the sumo SSB lift actually has a ridiculous amount of carryover due to the hurt it lays down, without the CNS stress of pulling from the floor. 50lbs out of a bar seems a little ridiculous but this is the first time I’ve used one so… IDK.

Wish I knew why squat and dead are doing so well right now.

Nice pulling and squatting!

Nice pull, way to stick with it. Deadlift bars are awesome.

Have you played around with your foot width for the sumo pulls?

I used to set up w/ shins @ rings, but then I got on a different deadlift bar and it was wider. I’m still trying to figure out where I feel the strongest.

Yeah I have. Setting up with ducked toes 3-4" from the plates seems to work well. That places the heels and then pivoting around the heel sets my foot rotation for whatever seems comfortable. Toes forward more seems to mean better balance so I may try that in a couple weeks as a way to fix the toggle at the knees.

I love your psyche up for that lift and the slow clap afterwards. Good job gutting it out.

Haha I didn’t hear that at the time clearly, but it is a little comical. Wish I knew who it was that clapped… I feel like a dick for not acknowledging them.

fri 10/21

warmup: PCV/LAX roll, dual-band traction (this was great), shrug, clean, muscle snatch

split snatch
95,145,145x5, 165x3 (no explosiveness at all), clean & jerk: 165,195,215x3, 235x1
pullup
BWx10, 45,70x5, 90x3,3, 115x1, 45+70x3, BWx25 (ouch)

seated MP
95x15, 135x4x10, 135x13
NG cable pulldown - chest up, big arch, strict form
superset, 10 reps

arm shit

stretch

Probably shouldn’t be surprised but I really had no power today. Maybe the day after pulling from the floor should just be a pump day. Also forgot my Oly shoes so that might have something to do with it as well. 235 ended up being a split clean (wtf?)… ugly as hell I’m sure but the jerk was fine. Tried doing a power snatch (1/4 squat catch instead of split) before giving up on them but the split catch just happened automatically so eff it. Seated mil press was pretty nice. I’m getting great back activation along with the shoulder activation.

Arm stuff was ridiculous and I thought my skin was gonna split. Might take it easy next week… kinda failed at that this week. Thinking SSB squats and cambered bar GMs for Monday.

mon 10/24

warm up: LAX/PVC roll, KB swing, GHR/GHR situps, walking lunge, squat

squat-to-box - short box + 1"
135,225x10, 315x5, 405x3, 455x1, (belt) 495x1, (wraps) 545x1, (add plate) 565x1, (free squat) 365x12*, 335x19 (godfuckingdammit)

Giant cambered bar GM - not chain suspended, but to safety chains, assume 85lb bar
175,225,265,315,355x10

stretch

545 was good, 565 was heavy, had to stop at 365x12 because the god damn safety chains got in the way again. The problem is I get progressively lower when doing these high-rep squats and invariable bounce off the safety device. You’d think I would learn. Ripped the chains off for 335 but then I can’t fucking count so I came up one shy. Next time I think I’m at 20, I’ll do an extra 5 reps. Anyway, my vastus lateralus and really entire quad group got lit up. Next time might try high bar because it was shifting down as the set wore on.

Really feel like I need to take it easy soon but going heavy is so addictive it’s hard to stop.

335xfail

tues 10/25

warm up: LAX/PVC roll, incline bench stretch, shrug, clean, muscle snatch

bench
135x15, 185x10, 225x5, 265x3, 185+150x2,3, 245x5,5,6
inverted row
superset

incline bench
135x5 (nope. should have stopped at 0)

HS BTN press
4x10, 1x15 or something
HS low row
superset

pec dec flye/incline pushup
4 sets

some arm stuff

stretch

Well benching actually felt great! Chains were very excellent and I’m thinking I should use them more. Pleased that 245x3x5 was no problem and even threw in an extra rep. Incline benching, however, sucked. Think I just seriously inflamed my right shoulder trying to make it work. Stupid. HS BTN press was the only thing that didn’t hurt so I went with it. Got a great pump on with the vanity work.

What’s with the high rep squats? You trying to go up a weight class?

Haha no for the Widowmaker challenge thread. Well actually, yes. I need new pants. You should try it! Haven’t had difficulty walking after a squat day in quite a while.
