What LAX ball in the car? How?

Big cities are overwhelming. When you get all settled let us Iowa folks know when you might come down.

Also push/pull meet September 24th near the Iowa/MN border. Interested? Several of our crew plan to attend. No membership required $35 per event. I think it is IBPA.[/quote]

Put it between your back and the seat, of course! When you’re already in pain it doesn’t take much pressure to do the job.

I’m thinking Monday the 29th of August for a squat session. I have a hand-me-down Z-suit that could see some action but not decided on that yet.

Do you have a link for the event?

There ya go!
Bring the suit!

fri 8/19

warm up: squat, lunge, sissy squat, GHR, KB swings

squat
135,225x7, 315x5, 365x3, (belt) 405x3, (wraps) 455x3, 495x2, 525x0

SLDL
135,225,315x10, (belt) 365x10
calf raise
superset

sissy squat/GHR
5x10+

stretch

Almost back to where I used to be. Should have gone for 495x3 but wanted to save a little gas for a PR. Sadly my form came apart at 525. On straight-bar days, I’m going to try to work up to something heavy without a box, then go a little heavier with a box to remind myself to sit back and hit depth. Nerves seem to get the best of me over 500 it seems. It was really nice to use the Sissy squat stand again… huge quads, here I come!

mon 8/22

warm up: PVC pipe roll (erectors, traps, hammies), LT traction, shrug, clean, muscle snatch

clean & press
95,115,135x5, 155,185,205x3, clean only: 225x2
pullup
BW,45,45,70x5, 90x3, 115x2,3, 45x10

snatch
95,135,155,165x3
chinup
superset, BWx10

arm stuff

lots o’ traction and stretching

Today was ok, but I was thinking about squatting the whole time. Deads on Wednesday should fun and heavy. The snatch feels a lot more natural and being able to drop it definitely saves my hands from some nasty wear. 165x3 was no problem. I’ll keep pushing it. Shoulder held out and is getting better by the day.

Put some unsweetened cocoa in my pre-workout shake and it was pretty damn tasty. The malto is slightly sweet, and the CEE makes it bitter anyway so I didn’t notice any cocoa bitterness. Probably gonna throw a scoop in every shake from now on.

Mmmmmm… I like unsweetened cocoa powder in my shakes too!

8/24

warm up: don’t remember specifics but it was good enough

RDL on box
135,225,315x5, 405x3, (belt) 455x2,3, (Rev AVG) 495x3, 545x1

walking lunge - one trip each, DB per hand weight
BW,45,85,125?,140

sissy squat/GHR
2x10

Nap. No stretching.

Haven’t been sleeping well due to the unholy humidity and a single fucking cricket, so this may have had some bearing on my state after the lunges. Cut the accessory stuff short so I didn’t die. RDLs were good but the band had to be set up lower that before so they don’t take anything off the top and less off the bottom. Lunges were tough but managed to gut out a trip with the 140s.

We will have to swap shake recipes.

It’s no different from NH! >:-O

fri 8/26

warm up: PVC pipe and LAX ball roll, bench, inverted row

bench
135x20, 185x10, 225x5, 255,275x1, (AVG PMS) 275x8, 315x4, (LT PMS) 315x1, (raw) 315x0, 225x6
inverted row - hold at the top for some sets, mini PMS for some sets
superset

HS incline bench
4x10+
CSR
4x10+

cable flye/lateral raise/incline pushup
3x10 or so

stretch

275 was very smooth and the AVG pms benching went well. A guy asked why I didn’t hit a weight with the AVG pms and then work down to LT and mini with the same weight as a means to progress. That never occurred to me! So I took 315 with the light band and it flew up like it was an empty bar. That was pretty sweet so I tried raw and got stuck about 2" off the chest. Oh well. I do like that idea though… instead of pushing AVG weigh as high as possible, try to match AVG weight with a LT and then mini before moving AVG weight up.

Interesting idea with the PMS progression…

Good meeting and lifting with you yesterday!

8/29

warm up: don’t remember

SSB squat-to-box - work sets
500x1, 530x0, (add plate to box) 530x1, (remove plate) 530x0 (oh well)

SLDL
135,225,315x10, (belt) 365x5, 405x6

Awesome 45lb SSB PR at ISU with SCOOPS, jakerz, little kyle, and big kyle. Thanks for having me, guys.

Likewise! Don’t be a stranger.

tues 8/30

warm up: PVC and LAX roll, shrugs, cleans, presses, snatches

clean and jerk
95,135,155,175x3, 195,215,225x1 (woo), clean: 245x1
pullups
BWx10, 45x5,5, 70x5, 90x4x3

snatch
135,155x3, 165x1
chinup
BWx3x10

arm stuff
stretch

225 overhead! Also figured out how to do a real clean (more or less). Some kid at ISU was cleaning a pretty solid amount yesterday and I think watching him was instructive. Cleaned 245 and was gonna jerk it but it was too heavy haha. Snatches were nice as well… gotta focus on pulling back a little more so the bar doesn’t fall forward. Could also stand to get a little deeper. Back was pretty tired from SLDLs and squatting so took it easy with the pullups.

225 C&J (more or less):

245 clean:

165 snatch:

If any readers have some technique feedback, please share.

I see what you mean by hardcore gym, looks like a sick place to train! Looks like you have a whooole lot more in your clean too

That’s some damn fine squatting going on there. Nice work.

Also your cleans look like warmups

Thanks guys. Hopefully the clean will improve quickly.

thurs 8/1

warm up: PVC and LAX roll, DB swings, walking lunge, GHR

sumo dl - reverse bands set to be slack at the top
225,315x5, 405,455x5, (belt) 495x3, (Rev AVG) 545x3, (Rev STR) 585x2

bottom-up pin front squat
135,185x8, 225,275x6, front squat: 315x2
donkey calf raise
superset

GHR/Sissy squat
3x10+

stretch

455x3 beltless felt fine and 495x3 was almost easy. The sumo pull seems to be coming back quickly and I’m happy about that.

fri 9/2

warm up: PVC and LAX roll, incline bench

incline bench
95,135x10, 155x8, 185x6, 205x3, 215x2,3, 185x8
inverted row
superset

HS incline
4x10+, 1x20
chest supported row
4x10, 1x20

cable flye/incline pushup/lateral raise
3x10+

stretch

Incline pressing was good enough. Upper chest has got to be growing because the HS incline and flye/pusup superset really trash the pecs. Forgot to mention that I was 182 after training yesterday and considering the buckets of sweat dripping off me during training, I’d guess actual bodyweight is a little higher! All these sandwiches and rice and chili may be helping.
