It suffered from the same fault as Thor in my opinion, in that the first “origin” arc is way too fantastical/over the top with CGI. It’s difficult to transition back to Earth and Hal’s mundane problems after seeing Oa with 3600 Green Lanterns and a giant yellow life devouring smoke cloud. They pushed the CGI over story/dislogue like a mofo too.
So I’m a bit of a GL fanboy so I know a lot of the backstory unfortunately. Hal Jordan does become a more confident and somewhat cocky bastard as he progresses which ultimately sets him up for his demise after he goes through a major tragedy. At the end of the movie he had progressed to a more serious character. Hopefully we will see more progression. Although the way they finished off Parallax I’m not sure they could setup that segment of Hal Jordan’s life or how the GL’s have a weakness towards yellow.

maybe sort of like Thor? most of the scenes on the human world sucked.

The difference is, with Thor, they got humor out of it because he was new to Earth…so even though I didn’t like those scenes much, they didn’t fuck up the whole movie.
In this, the critique seems to be that he whined too much about how he was quitting and the act of going back to Earth to ask your powerless friends whether you should save the universe is a little retarded.
“Hey, Pookie? Yeah, I just got this new ring that allows me to save the Earth and just wanted to know what you think I should do about the eminent doom headed our way”
“Nigga is you crazy? SAVE ME muthafucka!”
[end scene]…back to space.

I had to change the first part of your quote but that shit made me laugh!

Mark Strong’s Sinestro was the only truly interesting character in the whole film. When he was on screen I felt myself straighten up in my seat, to make sure I didn’t disappoint him. [/quote]
Now that’s just good writing.

Agreed. The only thing I found hilarious about it was the fact that they got me to watch it.
Does Hal Jordan whine in the movie about being alone? Does he then find acceptance in the GL Corps?
I hate that in superhero movies where the person gets powers but feels alone, then they are so fulfilled when they find out they’re not alone, even if the other person is evil.
If I had incredible superpowers I think I’d be more pissed off if I weren’t unique!

If there is a sequel. They said this movie had a huge budget and they weren’t sure if it is going to meet up to expectations. I guess we shall see.

Gotta disagree. Mark Strong is by far the most talented actor in this cast and he had just as little to work with as the rest of them story wise.
why did spoiler Sinestro put the ring on at the end? i thought he realised that fear had to be overcome, and he was told about paralax’s origin story. what a douche
Wasn’t there a running joke that Hollywood was so lame and unimaginative, and was running out of comic book heroes so fast, that they’d probably be making a Green Lantern or Aquaman movie soon? Now here we are.

Agree, Mark Strong is wickedly good always. I liked him in both Sherlock and RocknRolla.
I liked Green Lantern better than Thor but both are shades below XFC.
I went to see Green Lantern despite all the negative reviews and I thought it was rather enjoyable. Then again I actually go to the movies to enjoy them, not to pick them apart.
I saw Green Lantern last week and I really liked it. Green Lantern was just plain fun, a good old-fashioned superhero movie that’s light on gravitas and heavy on spectacle.
Ryan Reynolds surprised me with his role as Hal Jordan. I wanted Kirk’s Dad, Chris Helmsworth in the role, but that’s besides the point. Reynolds did a fine job and really nailed the transition from man-child to responsible Ring Slinger.
Blake Lively was scene stealer. I once watched 15 minutes of “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” just because I thought she was hot. Now that she’s grown up a bit more…DAMMMMNNNNNNN!!! I thought her role as Carrol Ferris and the scenes she delivered were perfect. They way she dressed down Hal after he sacrificed her to the Robo-Jets, saying “she could be both a CEO and a pilot” was personal favorite of mine. And the way she saw thru Hal’s disguise was hilarious. She came out of the gates as a strong spitfire of a female lead. My only complaint is we didn’t see more of her. Fingers crossed we get to see her as a Star Sapphire in the future.
Everything in space was spiffalicious eye candy. Sinestro was perfect. I would have enjoyed another 10 minutes of Ring Slinging 101. Maybe letting a couple other GLs mix it up with Hal and show off a how each GL have their own style of using the ring.
My only complaint was the final battle with Parrallax. I liked the Earth side of the battle between Hal and the angry cloud, but would have preferred to see Sinestro and a squad of GLs help Hal with the space battle. An extra 10 minutes of GL squad based space battle would have been cool.
I liked it too. I didn’t expect something Oscar worthy or anything.

I meant YOUR writing, dumb-ass!
I enjoyed the film my only complaint was two fold when I saw the broken gaurdian pedistal I thought “ohh Kronas” and I got a little nerdgasmic but then the gaurdian turns out to be Paralax which was lame, also the gaurdians are so quick to create a yellow ring and follow Sinestro I thought that was poor storytelling.
