This movie is getting some bad reviews. I guess it’s going to be one of those movies where the trailer looks great, but the movie sucks ass.
That doesn’t surprise me. What surprised me was the X-men movie NOT sucking ass.
There looks to be way too much CGI in this and truthfully, unless you are a true fan of the GL comics, most people don’t know shit about the space odyssey stuff…and they really don’t care about every other alien race with a ring.
To pull that off, they needed Stars Wars like seriousness…and I am sure they picked Ryan Reynolds for the laugh factor more than because of the epic of the story.
Bottom line, while GL’s popularity in comics has increased over the years (when he used to be as laughable as Aquaman), the general public won’t care who Kilowag is.
Spill.com says that the best part of the movie is every scene in space…but they fall off so badly when they show Earth that it is like two different directors did it. It sounds like they failed at finding whether they wanted to be funny or serious and failed at both.
Although I haven’t read very many of the comics, I always liked the Green Lantern character and the general premise. However, it may be impossible to take such a concept and make a quality movie out of it. When I saw the trailers and saw that they were making it goofy and comedic, I figured it would probably suck (like the Fantastic Four), especially compared to the darker, more serious comic book movies of the last decade like Batman and the X-Men flicks.
Not all comic book characters can necessarily be made into a feature film that is worth $200 million to make, but the studios sure seem to be trying hard to piggyback on Batman, Spiderman, and X-Men by making movies out of every damn character ever drawn.
Green Lantern and some of these others may work better as an animated series where they have more license to be silly and implausible and may be able to gradually build a larger following.

Good point, buddy. Just to add, the Green Lantern animated movies are GREAT.
This movie was turrible. Ryan Reynolds made Tobey Maguire’s Spiderman 3 performance look like Kratos or Duke Nukem. I thought Hal Jordan was supposed to be some cocky bastard, but he spends most of the film whining about not having what it takes to be a lantern. The only things worse than him were the bad guys.
I don’t know who Peter Sarsgaard blew in Hollywood to get a career, because he brings absolutely nothing to the table. I swear the director must’ve been in his eyeline mouthing “ok…giggle! Ok…YELL!” Hector Hammond’s role, or some other human from GL lore, had to have a much more powerful presence since the alien bad guy was just yelling and stealing people’s souls. Dr. Doom in the second FF movie was more convincing.
I’m shaking my head because I knew all along I wouldn’t like this movie, but went anyway. Shame on me.

I don’t care what the reviews say I’m going to see it anyway and make up my own mind.
Video was taken down, but from the still photo I see they’re developing the plot they should’ve used in the current film. Mark Strong’s Sinestro was the only truly interesting character in the whole film. When he was on screen I felt myself straighten up in my seat, to make sure I didn’t disappoint him. To have the rest of a weakened green lantern corps trying to battle their former leader while Hal gets up to speed would’ve been much more enjoyable.
Saw it today. Liked it to be honest! I was thinking Reynolds as a super hero could be strange but he pulled it off. I like the concept of what his power comes from and how he can apply it. Much different then other super hero’s and their powers.
I recommend you go see it if your up for another superhero flick!
I thought it was ok. The special effects/cgi looked really good. The story was rather bland. I’d probably give it like two stars. Blake Lively looks freaking hot as a brunette though.
