Maybe you misunderstood what I was saying. While you surely convinced us all that you’re a hardcore badass eater, what I’M saying is that b/w meals, your stomach cannot possibly be “topped off” ALL the time and you could pack in a few hundred extra cals throughout the day by filling those “empty spaces” with a convenient snack while walking around etc. I don’t see how anyone with any experience bulking could argue with that.

He sure did. The exact same point I am making is that even worrying about snacks means your overall diet is probably lacking. Eating a granola bar will no doubt make it harder to eat more later, especially if you are eating every 2-3 hours. Why would I ruin my appetite that I will need for a real meal with a decent amount of protein just to eat a 100cal granola bar?
It’s retarded. There are no SNACKS in bodybuilding. If you are eating that often, why the hell would you waste your appetite on a snack that won’t provide as many nutrients as a real meal just a couple of hours later? This is high school thinking and I am amazed people who claim to be serious lifters are hyping it.
Even when dieting I can think of better things to fill my stomach than a granola bar and the goal should be to avoid long periods of time without meals anyway.

When I’m bulking, I’m always full and don’t have an appetite to waste on “snacks” anyway. I don’t “worry about snacks”, I use them to get extra cals. While I don’t have granola bars, I have protein shakes for “snacks” to keep my stomach “topped off” like I said.
Maybe everyone else in the world is different. Maybe when I graduate highschool and become a professor or Dr. I’ll drop the snacks and see if I can cultivate an appetite, but the way my highschool teaches it now, the stomach holds the same amount regardless.

A protein shake isn’t a snack. Many people consider that a meal in itself. If I am dropping weight, I don’t discount protein shakes as meals. Considering I am usually taking in 50-70gr of protein in any shake I get down, it wouldn’t make sense to not count that.

Snack being a 'light meal’that’s the point, or a ‘hurried’ meal. I’ve been sacked from jobs when I was younger for eating boiled eggs, cans of beans and eating rice krispies out of a pan whilst supposed to be working. One of the fave Hagar things was he ‘picked up momentum at breakfast, and slid right into lunch.’
Interesting thread. Professor X, help me. Somebody who is bulking should eat a meal every 2-3 hours and a 100 calorie granola bar (or even 2 or 3 of those bars) eaten instead is NOT a meal? Therefore it shouldn’t be eaten at all?
A meal should have much more nutrients and macronurtients than a granola bar has, right?
I honestly wouldn’t bother with granola bars. They are heavily processed, tend to be high in sugar, and I remember an Atomic Dog claiming that granola was invented to sterilize men because it promotes estrogen or something.

I am not understanding why “granola” would even enter the mind of anyone trying to gain muscle mass. What the hell happened to beef? Why not a protein shake? It takes more time to eat a granola bar than it does to drink 40+ grams of protein so why even consider the granola bar? Do your parents own a granola company? Is someone force feeding you granola bars and you have no choice but to eat them at gun point? I don’t get it. What next, one of those tiny assed fruit cups that only hold one orange slice and 5 pineapple tidbits? What grade are we in again?
Berardi has a recipe for granola bars in his Gourmet Nutrition book. The main ingredients are oats, walnuts, raisins, protein powder, flax seeds, and honey. That would be a much better option than store bought versions that have no protein. The directions for preparation are pretty easy, too. This would make a decent portable meal as it is basically a bowl of oatmeal with nuts, raisins and protein powder in a bar shape. The entire batch provides 224 grams of carbs, 144 grams of protein, and 56 grams of fat.

Recently, I’ve developed a craving for granola bars, and at 100 calories each for a finger-sized bar, I would think that these would be an excellent food for bulking. However, I guess they can have the hidden “trans fat free” trans fat amounts of 0.5 grams per serving.
Just wondering if any of you know of any healthy granola bars, or have any comments on granola bars being a good food for bulking? I get my whole grains and raisins in a few bites! I just need a TRUE trans-fat free granola bar brand!
Make your own so you know what goes in it and you can control the amount of calories that you put in it… Trust me you can make a calorie dense bar, there are plenty of recipes
Why? Why would someone put that much effort into making a granola bar instead of simply eating another meal? There is no such thing as a snack in bodybuilding. With the average serious trainer trying to get down 6 meals a day or more, why would someone be this concerned about granola?[/quote]
He can always throw down 8-10 of em! They are easy to carry around too.
BUT, guess what? I belive they all have the S word in them!!! Check it out & read the ingredents to make sure!! You want to gain, but boobs are a no no. And I’m sure you don’t want a pussy either.

One of the best and easiest ways that helps me add in calories throughout the day is gettyng my favorite protein bar or homemade gainer/gronala bar, open it and set it somewhere i pass frequently in the house… say the bar is about 150-200 cals and about 4-5 inches long, i cut it up and each time i pass i just take a bite and by the end of the day ive eating plenty of good nutrients that provide the calories i need to grow without taking time to sit down and eat something… This has worked very well for me.
What the Holy Heaven? One granola bar a day? Do you think I’m a frickin’ fitness model wannabe or some shiite? I’m talking about have 2-3 granola bars per meal, as dessert, or something, to add more calories! We’re talking anywhere from 6-20 of these things a day! I can get a great price on a box of 6, so, it’s convenient!
The reason why I asked about bad ingredients in granola bars is because I would be eating so many of the on a DAILY basis. Come on, one granola bar a day? Are you frickin’ Judas? Are you trying to betray me? Man, you’re one stupid meathead to think that. Use your brain! It’s an organ, not a muscle!
Look, I guess I’ll just make some home-made bars instead. Looks like if you ask about something you’ll get burned for it. You guys have too much testosterone in your veins. Frickin’ one granola bar, LOL, holy heavens, moons, monkeys, squirrels, and bats!

You actually think it makes sense to fcous on Granola bars if you claim you can get down 3 of them after a meal? If you can eat 3 fucking Granola bars WHILE you eat, why the hell aren’t you simply EATING MORE FOOD WITH MORE CALORIES THAN THE DAMN GRANOLA BARS?!
