How expensive a no big deal is this first time DUI with lawyer fees, fines, court costs, diversionary programs, parole officer etc.?

we need a lawyer.

^Better advice than how to get out of it…if you’re drinking and driving, I hope you get busted (not directed at you Eli, just in general). I know to many people who have lost their lives doing that or had their lives shattered/ruined because of someone else doing that…I’d actually like to see much harsher sentences for those that drive under the influence…even if no accident results.

It may have…But I never play that card, or I avoid playing that card due to the fact that a lot of cops in my area are looking to bust firefighters that try the “Get out of jail free. Hey I’m a firefighter” Card. hahah It’s never worth it! I have friends who aren’t firefighters and there situation is the same, they are jerks and they get screwed or they play nice and legit and they get off with a warning or a “fix-it” ticket.

This thread isn’t about drinking and driving and getting away with it. Your post is irrelevant. Also, who was the ‘I hope you get busted’ directed at?

Quite possible. I’m not a firefighter, but when I was an EMT, I got pulled over twice for speeding on my way home from work (so still in uniform). Got warnings both times. May also have had something to do with the fact that they had not been excessive speeds and there were few cars on the road…but yeah.

The only time I ever got a ticket…had stopped in a parking lot to watch some fireworks and had manually turned off my headlights to avoid bothering other people there. Left and forgot to turn them back on. Went about 100 ft and got pulled over. Anyways, explained the situation to the trainee that pulled me over…knew the girl from high school…how the hell she became a cop…Idk…my only guess was because she was a minority and a woman…she was never really smart and she proved it. She wrote me a fix-it ticket even though it is a moving violation. She left so many things blank on the ticket that the department had to send me a corrected version with all the missing spots filled in. I talked to several cops, including two I knew from that department (including one of the training officers) and they all said they would have pulled me over and then let me go once they saw the lights did work and I wasn’t doing anything illegal. One of them told me to go to court in my uniform. Did, explained the situation, all I had to do was pay the 15 dollar processing fee and it was dropped. So, being something in the public safety field definitely does hold some power when it comes to traffic stops.

It’s actually relevant because drinking and driving was brought up.

It was directed at anyone who drives under the influence.

coffee and freetime have me taking this thread all kinds of places.

As to the original question, do you have to get out of the car?

Complying got you a warning so I would anyway. But if you get pulled over for a missing screw in your plate, you’re never going to have to pay much for that ticket so could you refuse to comply?

Also, how many times have you gotten pulled over recently Ritter? Maybe you need to take that cops advice and stop speeding.

Nice…two hours til class and having squat day earlier has me doing the same lol

Cool story bro.

Pretty simple here, you are a kid, bloodshot eyes, overzealous anti drug stance, big head from being on power trip, so you get a questionable search.

Actually I haven’t been pulled over since last May. Coincidentally that is around when I got my radar scanner.

But I was a stupid driver when I first got my license.

wtf

It’s a game. Cops play a game. If you are hiding anything and seem pretty cool about it, they try to befriend you in hopes of you spitting out that you’re wasted or high, or have gotten high in the past week etc. That’s all they need to put you in the back of a squad car and have a bunky for the night. Ever heard of these?:

“It’s ok man, I’ve tried weed when I was younger, it’s no big deal.”

“Even if you had one beer, it’s cool man, just tell me”

“Got anything in the car I should know about?”

“Where you guys headed?” (In hopes you say coming from the bar, a party etc.)

Play the game. Even if you’re guilty, tell em to search the car, you have nothing to hide. Guaranteed they won’t unless they think you’re high already. But if they ask you to search the car, you’re fucked.

^letting my guy search my car, which he did thoroughly, got me a warning instead of a bunk for the night.

He made that real clear.

Officer:
“Did you know you have a bench warrant”
“Please step out of the car, hands behind your back”
click
“You’re not under arrest…right now…May I have permission to look in your car?”
“Anything I need to know about? Because this is going to go a lot different if there is.”

searches car

“Pay your fine, I’m also writing you a citation for the plate. Have a nice day”

Eli: Thank you officer, sorry about the mess. Have a good one!

^

Soooo, you’re white…?

Cool story bro. I was agreeing with you that it was a messed up situation.

Seriously, don’t answer questions beyond what is on your drivers license as the police can ask for that. DON’T give permission for a search. It is better to get harassed, possibly spend the night in jail, than to inadvertently say something that could get you in trouble, up to and including spending YEARS in jail.

I saw a link to a portion of this video, but it is important enough to watch the whole thing. The police are not your friends, they are not there to help you, they are there to find enough information to charge you with and convict you of a crime. That is their job. Help them at your own peril.

Later

:^)

I don’t necesarily agree with that above statement…that one night in jail is on your record…whether you are charged or not, if you go into a public service career, it really doesn’t look good, especially if there is a lot of people who are waiting behind you, they won’t want to find the truth and they will move down the line to the next person…

One piece of advices, don’t get yourself into a spot where you can be accused of something, don’t have anything illegal in your car, loaded guns, drugs, containers of alcohol in reach…knives within reach…etc…
