I agree with what you’re saying to a degree. But we screwed around, at like 2pm…prolly never should have. There’s a difference between jocular camaraderie between young guys, when they are not busy, and, deliberately trying to subvert, and fuck someone up in a backwards and cowardly way.
I’m not decking people when we’re doing work, or trying to make you fall under a pile of trays your carrying.
It’s very different, when some 45 year old dude, who dislikes you so much, he won’t even answer your questions, tries to soccer sweep you from behind once every two shifts. Maybe you can’t see it, but I think I, and other people can.
I agree with this, but where to start? I do webdesign, and dev, and that’s what I’m developing right now, the serving just holds me a few bucks for when I’m not making computah moneez.

The guy is 45 and working the floor at a restaurant. Think how much you would hate yourself if you woke up one morning at age 45 and did that for a living? It probably isn’t right, but it is what it is, and he’s stuck there while you’re moving on.
As far as where to start, pimp your self out and do repair, install, and training as well. It’s amazing to me what people will pay me to remove a virus from their PC, install a wireless router, or teach them how to setup their budget in an Excel spreadsheet. It’s hard to charge what you are worth, but you can’t look at it from your perspective of “this is easy, just Google it”, but from their perspective of “omg I’ll never understand this”.
As far as getting started, print up some nice flyers and post them everywhere you go that has a board for it. “IT Support and training, 60 bucks an hour, networking, training, repair, blah blah blah”. Get business cards made, even if they are the free one with adds on the back, and make a point of mentioning to everyone you talk to that you are starting a computer repair and web design business, and hand them a card. Go to various churches in your town, and give cards to anyone you talk to. If you go to church regularly, ask for a small advertisement in the back of their next flyer or mass e-mail, bulletin board, etc.
Web design and the database admin work that always seems to come with it is great, but until you’re making a living from residual maintenance contracts, your bread and butter is fixing PC problems for people who would rather spend 60-180 bucks getting you to backup there Word docs and reformat their HD to fix all the malware issues their kid caused rather than learning to do it themselves.
If a small business contacts you, especially a new business and needs “all our screens printing to the big printer”, you’ve hit the jackpot. Give them a 10 or 20% frequent customer discount, and enjoy your new standard of living.

Try having some sneaky asshole attempt to steal your commissions on $20-$30k worth of sales, or use your computer workstation to fuck with inventory so that he can steal a few machines and have it traced back to you.
You could use some learning in subtlety. A couple of quick, seemingly rhetorical questions to the right people get them looking in the right direction, instead of square at you as a problem maker.
