Yeah, I’m training to try and break a world record for charity (ie the 225lb bench press for reps record), that’s why all of my benching is done for super high reps.
Ah, yeah I remember seeing the thread about that event somewhere on the forums. But I still cannot comprehend how a human being can do 88 reps with 72 kilograms on the bench, lol. Super impressive. Good luck with the charity event!

I hate to break it to you, but I think that is only the NFL combine record (if you are going off the 53 or so reps record that is). I think the really strong bench PLers could hit 3 figures (or close to it) for reps at 225 lbs. Perhaps they haven’t done it yet though, so perhaps you got something?
Still great if you can raise some money for charity. If you can break the NFL record, and the charity has merit, I’ll send you some money.
You could well be right and that’s exactly what I thought before I looked into it. Things is though, I’ve found literally zero guys on youtube doing full range benching 225lbs for more than 53 reps. I’ve even seen a vid of Bryan Shaw only benching 225 for 50 reps.
Of course, if more guys who can bench 400lbs+ for reps specifically trained for benching 225 for a crazy number of reps I don’t doubt the record would be more higher.
Also, if and when I do break any sort of record, I’m aiming to completely obliterate it. This is probably the only realistic shot I’m ever going to have at hopefully making a lot of money for charity (and raising awareness about the mental health issues I have experienced and overcome) and setting some kind of meaningful weightlifting record while I’m still in my 30s.
