Glee - What is Wrong with America?

Hear, hear. Wol for President.

Well…in the words of the immortal Samuel L. Jackson: “I don’t remember asking you a got-damn thing!” Watching a show involving music and dance does not make one ghey. Feeling the need to outwardly accuse a person of such makes me look at you a bit closer. You have been known to act a lil suspect…

As for the show itself, I’ll give it a shot. I’ve watched 30 Rock and all that other nonsense, and it’s just that: nonsense. Yeah, I’d bang the fuck out of Tina Fey, but other than that…pass.

Thank you. That is all. And yes. I’m pullin the Denzel card.

Like most others say, the show is liberal crap.

I hope it’s not just me but I’m a little disappointed at the display of masculine insecurity in this thread from more than a few posters. There’s nothing wrong with some dude having Glee as his guilty pleasure, it falls in the same vein as big dues who have Whitney Houston on their iPods and NFL/NBA players listening to Phil Collins and Barry Manilow (to name a few).

And the dude that called it liberal is probably a closet gay himself. There’s no need to inject politics into this shit, the creators are openly gay and have repeatedly said that the target audience of the show is high school kids whereby the objective of the show is to get kids interested in music/instruments and to stress sexuality equality

Been seeing that Denzel photo a lot in these threads lately haha.

Does Glee actually have a strong storyline? I thought it was just cover songs surrounded by loosely veiled plots? I must admit I don’t know what Glee Club is, we don’t really have such an activity in schools in Asia or maybe even the rest of the world outside of the Americas.

I hear more of the songs on radio, and that’s fine, because it’s a variation of the original, but I can’t see myself tuning in week after week to the show.

30 Rock? Haha C’mon Beast, that show is funny, perhaps there are wittier shows out there but it’s been a great way for me to relax from work, gym, family et al. And yeah Tina Fey is hot for many many reasons.

I keep hearing that the show does have a subtle arc to it, so I’m going to give it a shot. My point is, I’m not going to bash a show just because I don’t like it or it doesn’t interest me. Hell, I’m not much of a fan of Sons of Anarchy, but that doesn’t make it a garbage show…just not my cup of tea. Besides, how far of a stretch is it for me if I am a fan of such shows as Angel or Buffy?

And what the fuck is wrong with Phil Collins??? Hunh? lol. In all honesty, though. I dig the song and dance thing. Always have. Glee clubs aren’t that popular in America, really. At least not where I’ve been. I think it’s pretty dated. Nowadays it’s choir, band, in some places, drama…

As for Denzel, I think it’s just the look he has that has made that photo popular. How about a lil Jack?

It’s so frakking easy to bash shows without watching them, isn’t it? By all means, hate away if you’ve actually watched enough of it to dislike it. We knew where this thread was heading from the moment ‘Glee’ was mentioned on a site called T-Nation.

All it took was for the cool kids to jump in on the ‘right’ side of the argument because they knew they’d be backed up no matter what. Gay slurs and attacks on taste were par for the course. That’s not acting on opinion; it’s acting on herd mentality. SOA is probably my favorite show at the moment. If somone held a gun to my head, I’d choose SOA over Glee in the blink of a eye, but it doesn’t mean my watching Glee somehow takes away from my enjoyment of SOA, and I’m certainly not ruining the show for the hardcore SOA enthusiasts who watch SOA and nothing else.

You know why I don’t like Glee (aside from singing and dancing which I don’t care for in tv shows or movies)?

Because when the creator started working on it be basically stopped caring about Nip/Tuck and let the show go to shit and then let it get cancelled.

And yes I realize he’s probably making 10x more having a show on regular tv than on cable.

Best Comedy show on tv = It’s Always Sunny in Philly.

I watched it once to see what the hype was about, but only made it halfway through the episode. Not because it was “ghey” but because it was incredibly boring

That Lea Michele though, mmm mmm mmm mmm MMM

There is no need to bring politics into this discussion.

You like Glee.

I’m probably in the minority in that I don’t watch Glee for the musical numbers. If you know anything about musical theater or amateur dramatics, you’ll see that the show sends itself up quite regularly and does a good job of lampooning the type of people who move in those circles, but take themselves far too seriously, so I wouldn’t say that the writing is weak or depends on the song and dance aspect to get through every episode.

I should add at this point that I’m not generally a fan of musicals, either.

It is undeniably cheesy, but that cheesiness has an appeal of its own. Some people just don’t like cheese.

You need to move to Israel; she’s could literally be the girl next door. Basically, all the girls look like that.

As an aside, Lea is technically not Jewish. (Her mother is not Jewish, and did not convert), but the blond who plays a super-Roman Catholic Cheerleader (always wears the cross) is Jewish. I just thought that was ironic.
