Nothing horrible, really. My best roommate was a guy.
The thing is, a lot of guys move in with their friends and this can lead to problems. A lot of times one of the friends can’t distinguish “buddy time” from “sitting around doing nothing time” or “alone time” or anything else. Often there’s one friend that will always want the other for hanging out or doing something.
There’s also the pressure, because of being friends, of always saying where you’re going. Or even worse, the added pressure of feeling like you have to invite the friend.
Then there’s other possible problems. What if your roommate starts to struggle financially? How much slack do you allow since it is your friend? What’s more important – friendship or finances?
I just think there’s a lot of potential for problems when moving in with a friend. It can definitely work out, and it did work out great for me once, but I’d rather avoid.
Of course you can always move in with a non-friend male, but I don’t like that either. I feel like then there is pressure to try and be friends. Or there can male stubbornness or Alpha Male issues. I don’t want to deal with any of that.
I just prefer opposite sex roommates. You don’t have to be buddies. You don’t have to hang out. You can blame any disagreements on being opposite sex. Plus there’s always at least one drunken night. Or she might have hot friends.
I would contact him and list what he owes you. The not cleaning thing sucks but that seemed to happen everytime I had roommates in college - and beyond for that matter.
If he does not pay tell him . . . . whatever you feel like telling him and pay the bill.
It is a life lesson that sucks to learn but everyone goes through it at one time or another. Sorry to hear it. I know it does not make it any easier but I roomies suck.
thats some bull shit. im in the same situation kind of, but my 2 roomates are my boys from high school. they suck at paying bills so everything is in my name, but at least they do pay it…a few days late.Plus ill just smack them around a bit and everything will be ok.

Seriously though, I would imagine small claims would be the best idea, if worst comes to worst, losing $200 isn’t THAT huge of a deal. Better than getting yourself killed, seeing the nitwit has a gun.

As others have said, if he doesn’t pay just take him to small claims court. More likely than not he’ll come forward with his share before it ever goes to trial.
Ok, my voice mail worked. He paid it.
He’s paid bill 1 of about 4 that we’ll be getting over the 20 days or so. I’m moving over a half hour away, but I’ll keep in touch as I get those bills.
