Speaking as a woman, it is a complete mystery to me. As far as I know, it must be societal conditioning.

I think opals, amethysts, and garnets are much, much prettier.

When I got married a few weeks back, we chose simple tungsten bands. They were inexpensive, and are really pretty!

Those rings are nice. I dont mean to offend anyone who likes to spend thousands of $ in pebbles… but if you want to spend the rest of your life with a person i think the ring must be a symbol of your love, and the important thing of a symbol is the meaning, not the price or the minerals its made from.

But thats just me :stuck_out_tongue: lol

I completely agree with you Turiel. I think it is partially an age thing, too–younger girls see the big flashy rings as a public statement of their fiance’s love and financial face to the world.

Us older gals (I turned 44 two days after I got married) are often of a more practical bent. In my case, I did the big fancy diamond-and-gold thing the first time I got married. The ring was pretty, and I loved it, but it really got in the way a lot, as I work with my hands. This new band is really “us” for a lot of reasons, and no big clunky diamond to get in the way! It is much more convenient to wear.

OTOH, my daughter just got married, at 22. To her, the big diamond was a big deal. I gave her the one her dad gave to me, and she is thrilled. I am happy the ring is not sitting in a drawer, and that they can use the money they would have spent on practical things like getting into a house. She is happy because she has the bling. Her husband is happy because SHE is happy. win-win-win

Yo dez…congratulations.

Do what you want, it’s your money. When Yo Daddy and I got together, we got tattoos. Big ass rings get caught in my bass strings.
