Back. For all the 2 people that know who I am lol. Yes I still train. Hm I’ve put on a bit of weight since last time I logged current bw is around 108 kg but haven’t matched strength to go with the increase in size however in a few exercises I can do more these days. I don’t back squat anymore(pussy ),but chest shoulders and arms I’ve done PBS in the last 2 years. I last deadlifted about 7-8 months ago but injured my hip and lower back and haven’t recently. Legs are a bit hit and miss.

Recent ( last year type PBS) are 70 kgx2 barbell curl. I’ve also done 60x7 and 48x15, I’ve also cable curled 1 hand 50 kgs but I’m not pushing it atm. I’ve done 120x1 and 98x10 incline bench but no flat bench for years apart from 45 kg dumbell x 14 done about 6 month’s ago. Seated overhead I’ve done 98x2. Front squat was 128x5 but I’m rebuilding. I’ve done fitness type shoulder workouts,reps for time.. best one I reckon was clean and press barbell overhead where I did 42 reps with 70 kgs in 10 mins. I also did 98 reps in 10 mins with 22.5 kg dumbells . Those 10 mins workouts are fun

I dropped off last 4-5 months and am slowly rebuilding because I had a street fight where initially I was losing stand up,turned the tables because I switched and took him down but then discovered mounting an opponent on the ground is essentially useless when his mate joined the fray and kicked me in the body and head 6 times. I took 3 fullblown kicks to the head so I’m still recovering. The net told me don’t go to ground with multiple opponents but I was losing trading punches. What do. Walk away without doing anything dumb? What’s that?

Lateral crucifix raises

I like to keep everything still and strict raise 4x12 with 10 kg kettlebells

Thanks I’m fat and it’s seated with back support at not quite a true 90 degree angle,more like 80-85 so there’s a bit of upper chest involved. Not up to a true overhead yet with no back bracing but I think my seated is in the 100 and something so I’ll try and work up over the next few weeks. Been reading over my log,gee I’m a bit rough with the old diary. Terrible. Do I even English bro. Spell check and editing can be my friend if I want it to be. Sentence structure as well.bleh.

I did front squats up to 98x5 lunges and farmers walks. Sorry team I don’t like doing legs anymore lmao,been a good 7-8 months since I’ve tried to any extent and only a handful of trainings since. Hip and lower back issues. Bleh. 51 years old and fast forwarding all the leg sessions to get back to chest shoulders and arms. I’m become the antithesis of what I originally was when I first started lifting in my mid 30s. I used to scorn those who didn’t squat whilst squatting 3 times a week. I just don’t want to do it anymore but when I now look in the mirror I’m slowly reforming (or deforming) into some sort of Roger Ramjet. Hey where’d my legs go? Meanwhile upper body (and stomach) have bulked up to some sort of baby gorilla. I gotta keep doing.

Story time. Incline bench,don’t know what to do as programming is based on what pops into my fat head,and changes on how I’m feeling leading in and during warm ups so I decided to try and rep pb 88 on incline which before today was 14 and I have attempted to beat this personal milestone probably between 15 and 20 times previously. Sometimes I’d only hit 11 or 12 on the odd occasion id hit 13 and a couple times I’ve equalled it with absolutely nothing left. So I worked up to 88 and went for it but misgrooved the very first rep and hit the rack and spent the next 7-8 reps micrometer -ing it back into the slot. Just got 15 with the closest fail on incline bench I’ve ever had. 3mins rest 10 8 6 then a whole bunch of reps with 78,pressups and flies. Pretty chuffed tbh. Haven’t failed a lift in a while and pretty darn close

Does going to failure help with absolute strength,no it doesn’t but it’s what I like to do if I’m up for it. A more measured approach with heavier and lower reps at lower RPE probably increases it faster. My fitness under load as well has probably improved,usually an all out set like that with a 9.99RPE at the end would kill my workout but I still kept going. It’s around 26c outside and I normally set up outside as the garage is being used as storage and no room

Weighed and measured myself today at doctors.. 51 and 6 months old.. 170 cm tall…all time pb of 109.2kg ,resting heart rate is 62,blood pressure is ok..I thought stuff it , might as well bust out the tape measure

Shoulder diameter is 54 inches, chest is 47 ,flexed arm is 16 and top of thigh is 24.5. some symmetry issues yes. However not as wide as I am tall but that’s only a 13 inch differential. Means what exactly? I look shorter.

Thoughts -Naturally a small fella,up until early 30s I was around 75 kgs,discovered weights in my mid 30s and from 40 onwards stayed around 93 kg apart from 6 months of crash dieting to make 83. So to be this heavy,I think a rejig may be in order.

Well better tell the truth even tho I’m the only guy that cares, it’s 27c outside and I started but just ran out of steam in the heat. I train outside because the garage is full of other people’s stuff and there’s no ventilation or air con,it’s over 33 and impossible to move lel.
Close grip hands 15.5 inches apart,now I’ve started neglecting the old close grip ever since the Mrs sold my bench without my approval,I have a portable dumbell type bench but the angles aren’t flat or incline,the flats a few degrees upright and I just started not doing them for no reason. This particular grip I’ve lost a bit of power

Up to 93x8 98x6 103x4 then 88x8but couldn’t handle the discomfort and bailed. I sweated more with 26 reps than I did spending 2 hours mowing my old man’s massive lawn in similar heat at a fast pace. I move quickly with the ole mower but a few intense sets overheated me and the sweat covered my face after 10 mins.

Military strict press out of rack

78x5 83x2x2 all time PBS in terms of reps at that weight. I have to move furniture so cut it short. I’m sure I did 83 when I was in the 90s in terms of bw and it was a hard 10RPE so I’ve added about 15% bw and doubled my capability with that weight. Not sure what to make of that in terms of bw increase correlation with strength increase. Id say no. I think if I didn’t 9RPE with 78 beforehand,and that was a rep pb ,I may of done better with the absolute test. My triceps have kinda become a weak point because I don’t hammer them anymore with close grip,definitely quicker off the shoulders and that’s from seated but locking out is still slow

Just for posterity I’ll list my PBS and come back to them at a later date when I’m ready to take them on. Some are quite ancient and perhaps will never be beaten as I age. Some things I’ve gotten better at and there’s an upward trajectory despite entering my 52nd year and some lifts were done with the benefit of youth.

Flat bench….comp is 130 done at 92.2 kgs done April 2021 . I gym lifted 135 tng in 2022 at 95 kg. I havent gone anywhere near that in years and the only flat benching I’ve done with any real effort recently was 45 kg dumbells x 14 done about 6 months ago. My pb at 100 kgs is 14 done about 5 years ago and havent gone all out since.

Incline- I hit 120 about 4 months ago but that was at 106 kg bw.

Close grip pb 15 inches apart is 125 done at 93 kgs done 3 years ago. I did do 123 about 6 months ago but once again quite a bit heavier in bw.

Shoulder press-1 lift that seems to be improving is seated,I hit 103 a few months ago at 9 rpe and I’ve done 98x2 a week ago or so. Today I rep pb my old standing strict press. I have done some quite good volume PBS in the last year. Being over 50 doesn’t matter with this lift.

Barbell and cable curls already listed.

Squat-210 done over 10 years ago. I did do 190x2 paused 2 years ago but my mobility’s gone to trash as I’ve gotten thicker around my shoulders .I never back squat anymore. I fell off front squatting after hurting my hip a number of months ago but 128x5 done 1 year ago is my best.

Deadlift. 235 but done a decade ago. I did do 220x3 just over 2 years ago but I’m not sure what the mental block is with the compound movements. It seems due to not competing anymore,Im not willing

So perusing over old incline bench workout done 3-4 years ago and see 5 x 5 with 98 kgs done in 24 mins,so I’ll do that 1 and did it in 9 mins. So now I see why people choose to get bigger. I don’t know what I was doing with 24 mins lel. Then did 4x8 with 88 kgs,4 x 20 pressups and 5 x 10 flies. Flies vary from 22.5 to 10 kgs depending on how the shoulders feel but I only did 10 kgs today

Cable row and lat pulldowns 3 sets of each,nah I don’t care about my back so didn’t keep account. I’m trying my best to keep the love for weight training and on occasion I’m inspired to hammer something out but I wonder if my age is starting to become a factor in some rather insipid performances in the gym. I could hand in my natty card and jump on TRT and perhaps my drive and aggression would improve but that’s still pending. I’ve gone back to the commercial gym temporarily because going the motions at home means I’m tailing off. Just being in the environment,maybe that will help. Conversely after all that cynical and whingeing,I’m the strongest I’ve ever been on certain things so there’s that. I’m also the biggest so it’s been a transformation of sorts from skinny powerlifter who had body parts that looked untouched by any gym to someone who actually looks like they lift.
