I heard yesterday that George Straight is the Country Music Entertainer of the decade. I like George Straight -a lot, I’ve got one of his CDs out in my truck right now, but, entertainer of the decade?
I’ve been listening to country for the last decade and it’s pretty clear to me the most dominate artist over the last ten years are Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw and Allen Jackson. I could see giving it to one of those guys, not George. Anyone know how they decide this award?
I bet my left testicle it’s decided behind closed doors and not by albums sold or concert numbers or anything concrete. I don’t really give a hoot about the award or anything, but when I heard this I thought it had to be typical political bs.
Kenny Chesney does not deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the other guys.

I understand he doesn’t fit the traditional country image but if you turn on your local country station your going to hear Kenny with in 45 minutes.
Your comment kind of supports my opinion. They, like you, are awarding a certain degree of country image over pure entertainment success.
Not to hijack to much; but Kenny Chesney’s sole audiance are prepubecent girls who wouldn’t know country music if it punched them in the face.
But yea, George Straight is good, but hardley country entertainer of the decade. Alan Jackson gets my vote… I think…
Probably because he has more number 1 hits than anyone in any genre of music. Country, Rock, Rap, you name it. Last I saw he had 56 #1 songs. Kenny, Tim, and Allen are all good but George has been cranking out hits non stop.
You should learn to spell his name before purporting to know anything about his career.

I apologize to Mr. Strait.

I see this is true, but I couldn’t figure out if he’s had more than those other other guys over the last ten years.
And, what the hell, you don’t like Toby?
George Strait is the best country sing of the decade you damn right. Kenny chesney like rascal flatts, Taylor swift, Carrie Underwood, and their lot sell cd under the country title of music but they are as pop as Britney and Nsync. George is entertainer of the decade as he has more hits than anyone ever.

I like Toby as a person, especially what he does for the troops. I honestly only like about three of his songs though. I’m just into the country that someone could listen to while they drown their sorrows in booze. Toby only has a few of those songs.
Musicians don’t have to be talented to be overplayed on the radio. I think it would be a toss-up between Alan Jackson and George Strait; both are very talented and have stayed true to country music. The rest fit into “Pop Country” in my mind.
Yeah, let’s give it to Kenny Chesney. Here’s every Kenny Chesney song… next verse next verse final verse
In other words, Kenny Chesney is gayer than two men having sex.
Tim McGraw lost all cred when he wrote a song talking about how he hates when people put pop in his country then makes a song with Nelly.
Allen Jackson and Toby Keith are good though, but they have nothing on George.
Either way country has been on the decline for a very long time. Even George’s songs are getting kinda lame.

The “Nashville Sound” has evolved into pop music with a fiddle or steel thrown in. Many of the top songs are cross-over pop and I hear them mixed differently on different stations. Taylor Swifts songs have mostly been treated this way.
This reward reflects on essential truth: While Kenny Chesney is ‘popular’, George Strait is ‘timeless’.
One observation from a playing musicians standpoint (I play in a country/southern rock band)-- when we play Chesney, it goes over OK, when we play Strait everybody loves it.

Damn, forgot about the Nelly thing. Forget Alan.

No, mainly Hank Sr. but not in a while. I just got turned off on most country because the country radio stations sound like American Idol.

I kind of agree with you on this. The last few years Toby’s been cruising on his natural song writing ability along with his good voice and humor. It seems like he doesn’t have any of the really emotionally connected songs left in the tank.
Some of his early stuff was just fantastic on that deep level. Anyone know that song, I think it’s called “Who’s that man runnin’ my life?” That was one emotionally connected song. The type that makes you understand what something is like even if you haven’t gone through it.
