George Floyd Riots

What do you mean?

Apparently the state police remained mostly unseen inside the courthouse all night.

Where were the federal agents? They didnt pull out, but they were mia last night? im sure those guys appreciated a night off though. Hopefully got to enjoy the other thing that PDX is known for… strip clubs!

If we go by the women we see at the protests, I hope they import the strippers from out of town. There isn’t enough alcohol to make blue haired heifer cows look attractive.

Is bestiality?

It gets REAL backwoods real quick when you leave the city areas…

“Young minds find themselves more affected by opinions of online strangers than their parents. Maybe that’s why so many young, unstable, unemployed adults find joy in destroying property, communities, careers, lives and ultimately themselves. They get a head start online — then on the street, they letter in vandalism and arson”.

It begs a lot of questions about Wheeler… How, can Wheeler negotiate a ‘cease fire’ with a group he is supposedly not part of? How would he have authority over a mob of opportunists without leadership or organization, unless…?

The Feds were inside the court house. They haven’t gone anywhere…

And there was violence last night, just less. The crowd was much smaller.

You question that guy’s service, bro?

I really don’t understand why this is so hard.

It happens all the time in other areas. Heck, even concerts. Every major metal concert I’ve been to, shit gets policed in the inner circle (besides weed lol).

Step on to the fringes of the crowd and a bunch of douchebags can act up–but get into the pit and you will get reality checked FAST. Violently? Not always, but yes when someone doesn’t get the message. It’s pretty straightforward–you get a warning by a few guys, and if you don’t straighten out you have a target on your back and about a dozen dudes around you.

I’ve seen guys self police creepy dudes touching women, throwing objects, throwing punches or kicks in the pit, pocketing stuff that wasn’t theirs, you name it. It is AMAZING how fast it gets sorted. There are very clear behavior guidelines even though it doesn’t look like it to am external observer, and they are enforced.

I’m not going to suggest everything is perfect and nothing ever happens (obviously, I hope)…but I also feel like you don’t need everything perfect in a protest either.

I found the ‘protesters’, while some still showed up in Portland, many moved to a suburb in Portland was visited.

So, there you go… They moved into people’s neighborhoods.

Of course, they probably care even less about black lives.

From what I’ve been told, it wasn’t as professional as it is today.

Helicopter parenting. Kids are being taught from kindergarten that they’ll always have a crutch. Elementary school teacher is not treating my beautiful child appropriately? Then I’ll come to school and make a scene. Mommy and daddy will always find a way, a workaround.

So the kids are being told - either explicitly or implicitly - that they’re special and that their middle or upper middle class parents will bail them out no matter what and that they should treat life as they always did, as a playground.

And then come the early-to-mid twenties and lo and behold, the crutch disappeared overnight. Their parents aren’t rich enough to sustain a useless parasite for decades, their humanities degree is worthless and everything, from rent to food costs real life money that their now retired parents used to disburse freely no questions asked.

And then comes the discovery - for men at least - that attractive women like men with social status and that their only mating options are either pornhub or blue haired heifers.

The logical conclusion is - “burn everything down”

And a lot of the things schools do which create weak, fragile and under-educated kids who are unprepared for the realities of the world (competition actually exists?) are mandated by law or are policies put into place by school boards.

It’s really not the degree in a lot of cases but the individual thinking that having a degree is some magic key that will give them what they want. They also are incompetent when it comes to being educated. For example, many English majors just want to be writers and what’s a hack? Someone who has written more than they have read, and they don’t want to read. Because, as you’ve said, they think they are special, they should automatically get published. Since every utterance they’ve had growing up was deemed worthy of validation by their parents and teachers, they believe that they need to be listened to (or read) without having to work their way into that position. So they know very little about English literature because, “what do I care what some dead old white man thinks about life. He doesn’t know me.” And their grammar is not exactly stellar because rules are for others to follow. Then they don’t get their dream job of being a novelist and it’s because life isn’t fair. Well, Melville served on a whaling boat and you play video games in your parents’ basement. And life wasn’t exactly “fair” to him either. You have a lot of kids going to college who think they already know everything. I don’t think if I were hiring some young person I would want one who thought he knew everything.

I believe the keys to success are pretty much universal. There are certain things you need such as the ability to persevere and be resilient. You need a strong work ethic. You need talent in some cases but not all. You need an open mind, flexibility and the ability to adapt. You need imagination and creativity. You also need to be able to demonstrate a certain level of competence. For a college grad that means coming off as an educated person. You can read and write comprehensibly. You can think critically and be objective. You know things beyond your major. You can set goals, meet deadlines and take some pride in your work since it’s a reflection of you.

That’s why I believe an intelligent person graduating with a high gpa and an art history degree (I thought they were intelligent?) who actually knows the subject matter inside and out, who paid attention in his other classes (hence the high gpa) so he knows at least something about other subject areas; who is not afraid to work hard and approaches every task with perfection in mind (like he approached classes he was required to take but maybe was not interested in); who can communicate like an educated adult; who can set goals and make plans; will be successful in life.

Just another reason I like Bill Maher.

Yeah I watched that last night as well and it was a good discussion.

I read an article on this in which the writer actually said that because Maher and other wealthy celebrity types who signed the letter are not in that much danger of getting cancelled, they should just shut up. The writer then admitted that there are those who have been cancelled in the media and academia but they weren’t big fish. Maybe the little fish need the big fish to step up. This is a writer who would say silence is complicity. They don’t even see their own incongruity.
