A very general primer for Caucusus - surnames ending in -(i)an are as a rule Armenian, -dze and -vili Georgian, while -ov and -ev are Muslim, both Shiite (Azeri) or Sunnite (Dagestani, Chechen, Ingush and other Vainakhā¦)
Also, Armenians are visually distinctive and recognizable (think Kim Kardasnian before surgeries) which made it easier to single them out in pogroms due to their propensity for engaging in commercial activities.
Basically, band members of System of a Down (all Armenian-Armenicans) cover all physical feature typesets one may encounter in Armenia.
