tc makes a good point about clarke in this weeks atomic dog…
The president with the most military experience (in recent history) was Jimmy Carter.
He ACTUALLY FLEW fighter jets. He didn’t use family connections to get into the “champagne unit” like Bush.
I don’t recall carter being all that popular with the military, even though he had extensive experience himself.
Wesley Clarke makes GWBush seem like a pathetic weasel in comparison.
PS: Never seen Bush lift weights, he is a jogger all the way.
Lumpy, if I remember correctly, President Carter was a dolphin. Nuclear subs under Hyman Rickover himself. It was George Bush sr. who flew planes off of carrier decks. As we get further along into the baby boomer and subsequent generations, I think that we will be hard pressed to find a President who served in the armed forces.
wes clark is the man… anyone who can’t recognize that is just hating.
he clearly stands out from the dem pack and shadows bush with his extensive military experience and proven intelligence.
all the arguments about why wes clark is not the man are very weak: “he was the supreme allied commander, but never deserved the job” “he’s a liar” “he is arrogant”. just admit it, both parties would like a candidate as flawless as clark.
I believe Jimmy Carter flew fighter jets for the Navy for 7 years. Three tours of duty if I remember correctly. That is the most extensive military career for a US prez since the Eisenhower-era.
You’re right, he served 7 years, but it was as a submariner.
My bad. I thought he was a pilot.
i would say i am a democrat, but the thing that pisses me the fuck off about the dem party is they are a bunch of fucking idiots…i think gen clark is by far the best canidate this country has had for pres in a very very long time…but the nutty lefty wierdos that have taken away the dem party from real americans, are not going to give him a chance because they love Howard dean…who is completely un-electable…they are just either stupid or nuts…and even though i am a democrat if howard dean is our canidate i am voting for bush, because as much as i am for helping those that need help, protecting the enviroment, and like a pres that gives to after school programs, i do not feel howard dean can protect us in these very scary times…big martin
"I see you read NewsMax. The folks who love “El Rushbo”, Ann Coulter, and other wackos.
That explains a lot.
Mega-dittos!
Hugz,
Lumpy"
way to dodge the issues
Clark is in over his head. The politics that will get you ahead in the military are different than the civilian sector open mudslinging.
If I remember right he’s the one that decided that fighting the war in Kosovo from near the straosphere to avoid our own potential casualies cost a lot of innocent lives and in the end wasn’t nearly as effective as it was sold to be. That’s why the other generals don’t hold him in high esteem.
Morg
Remember this intelligent post of yours? Dodge the issues much?
Hypocrite.
Did anyone see Clark on Hardball last night?! MAN, does that sumbitch dodge questions! And Chris Matthews just wouldn’t let up (I’ve always said that he’s the best interviewer on television)! Clark might actually, possibly, give Bill Clinton a run for his money with regarding to having an actual physical allergy to giving straight answers. Among other things, and Matthews pressed him on this about 12 times (made Clark look like a real ass), Matthews asked him if he was fired as NATO Supreme Allied Commander. And every one of the 12 or so times, Clark said “No, I was asked to resign.” You were FIRED, dickwad!!! If you think it was wrong, that you were backstabbed, that it was unwarranted, FINE – explain your position. But don’t act like a fucking skirt with the semantics. MAN, that shit fucking pisses me off! Pathetic performance.
I think my prediction takes one more step in the direction of becoming a reality.
It looks like Al Gore will be endorsing Howard Dean today! When Dean officially gets the nomination he will need a colorful, intelligent person from the South to become his running mate. That’s where John Edwards comes in.
For those of you who do not know who he is. John Edwards is currently running for President. He is a Senator from N. Carolina. He is also full of charisma and because of his age (50) and apparent youthful look he has many more years ahead of him and would be ideal as Deans VP.
As far as Clark goes, he will be a non entity very soon.
Zeb:
That’s pretty much the conventional wisdom floating around in the punditry circles these days. However, I think the lauding of Edwards is more for superficial resemblance to the “Man from Hope” more than anything. However, any ascendancy on his part would quash Hillary’s plans for '08, which are working out perfectly now. Look at how she has suddenly turned more hawkish on foreign policy – that’s not for now, but for the record. She will try to squish him if he looks like a serious challenge, and to the extent the Northeast wing of the Democratic party remains in control, I think Edwards will have a hard time of making a serious go of it for awhile.
As for Clark, he is becoming a non-entity fast. He was the darling of the more professional wing of the Democratic party, as the man to save the ticket from Howard Dean and a complete co-opting by the anti-war crowd, which doesn’t play well with the traditional, blue-collar Democratic base in the midwest. However, he has flipped, flopped and fizzled. He may be intelligent, but he lacks political skills.
BostonBarrister,
I could not agree more with your analysis!
I think Al Gore has endoresed early because he too feels Dean will utlimately lose to Bush. And Gore will then be fighting with Hillary for the nomination in four years.
If Dean does pick Edwards I feel they will be a formidable match for the republicans next year. They lock the Northeast and now have a fighting chance in the south. I see another fairly close election.
What do you think?
yea i am sick to my stomach i got up early this morning to train and watched msnbc and saw the gore dean bullshit celebration… seriously fuck the democratic party they lost my vote if dean is the canidate…this new democratic party gore talked about is for the left nut-job pussys…if its not clark or maybe gephardt…and now i kind of think kerry is cool cause he straight said “fucked it up” during a campaign …now that takes balls…lol but i cant stand dean… ill vote for bush…big martin
